In Honkai: Star Rail, elements refer to different types of elemental damage that a character can inflict on their opponents through their attacks. Each character in the game is associated with a specific element, and the type of element they possess determines the type of damage that their attacks will inflict.
For instance, a character with the fire element will deal fire damage, while a character with the ice element will deal ice damage. These elemental types are important to consider when forming a team and battling against opponents, as certain elements may be more effective against specific types of enemies or bosses.
Additionally, elements in Honkai: Star Rail can also interact with each other in various ways, leading to unique effects and bonuses. For example, some elements may be more effective when combined with others, such as fire and ice, which can create a powerful explosion that deals massive damage.
Understanding the elements and how they interact is crucial for success in Honkai: Star Rail, as it allows players to strategically choose which characters to use and which attacks to use against different types of enemies. In this guide, let’s discuss everything you need to know about Honkai Star Rail elements, weakness breaks, and what elements are assigned to characters.
Honkai Star Rail Elements List and How Elements Work
In Honkai: Star Rail, elements refer to the different types of elemental damage that each character is associated with. There are seven elements in the game:
- Physical
- Fire
- Ice
- Lightning
- Wind
- Quantum
- Imaginary
Each of the 27 characters in the game is assigned to a specific element and deals damage based on that elemental class.
Elements are crucial in Honkai: Star Rail because they play a vital role in winning battles. Enemy characters have weaknesses to one or more elements, and attacking them with the element they are weak in will reduce their toughness. The toughness is indicated by the white bar above their HP.
When the toughness is completely depleted, it triggers a Weakness Break, which is a much stronger offense that can cause different effects depending on the last element used on the character. For instance, if you attack an enemy character weak to the Fire element, a Weakness Break triggered by Fire may cause additional burn damage, while a Weakness Break triggered by Ice may freeze the enemy character in place.
Therefore, to succeed in Honkai: Star Rail, players must strategically choose which characters to use and which attacks to use against different types of enemies based on their elemental weaknesses. Understanding the interactions between different elements and their effects on enemies is essential for mastering the game’s combat system.
Weakness Break Effects

In Honkai: Star Rail, Weakness Breaks refer to a much stronger offense triggered when a character’s toughness is completely depleted by attacking them with the element they are weak to. Weakness Breaks vary depending on the last element used on the character and can cause different effects.
Four elements in the game (Physical, Fire, Wind, and Lightning) have a basic Weakness Break that applies damage over time to the enemy character, typically lasting for two turns. For instance, using Fire against an enemy character weak to it will trigger a Weakness Break that applies a burn effect, causing additional fire damage over time.
The other three elements (Ice, Quantum, and Imaginary) have additional effects on top of the damage over time. For example, when triggering a Weakness Break with Ice, the enemy character is frozen and immobilized, while Quantum’s Weakness Break delays the enemy character’s action and deals additional Quantum damage in the next attack.
Similarly, Imaginary’s Weakness Break delays the enemy character’s action and reduces their speed. These Weakness Break effects can be crucial in combat as they can provide an advantage in battles against tougher enemies and bosses.
It’s important to note that not all characters have elements that trigger Weakness Breaks, and some may have different effects even if they use the same element. Therefore, players need to consider their team composition and the elemental weaknesses of the enemies they face to strategize effectively in Honkai: Star Rail’s combat system.

Best Element in Honkai Star Rail

In my experience, Imaginary is the best element in Honkai Star Rail. The imaginary element does Imaginary DMG but the best part is that it inflicts Imprisonment on the target. When an enemy gets the Imprisonment status effect, their speed is reduced, giving you ample time to land a few hits or use that time to heal yourself. The target can also experience delayed actions and SPD reduction.
For example, let’s say you have three characters; you have Welt and your MC (main character), and then the enemy. Normally, they would attack before your main character but with speed reduction your MC will attack before the enemy, giving you a good advantage in combat. So Imaginary element in Honkai Star Rail can really make the difference when trying to beat a challenge for certain returns or if someone on your team has died already.
Keep in mind that Imaginary Element doesn’t get dot which means it does the worst damage out of all elements. However, the speed reduction is helpful enough to make Imaginary the best element in Honkai Star Rail.
