GTA 6 (Project Americas) Inspired By Narcos, Pre-alpha, Male Protagonist

We have got plenty of GTA 6 leaks and rumors over the past couple of months. Fans expected the game to be announced at E3 2019 but nothing was said about the game. I think that it is safe to say that GTA is such a huge franchise that it does not need a big platform. It will sell on its own. We have now learned that GTA 6 is codenamed Project Americas.

Reports claim that the game has been in development since 2012. A year before GTAV was released. Production picked up in mid-2015. It was put on ice when the developer needed to focus on Red Dead Redemption 2.

GTA 6 Project Americas Details

The source claims that GTA 6 Project Americas is a Rockstar Worldwide Production and does not involve a single studio or two. All of the studios are working on GTA 6 Project Americas together.

GTA 6 Project Americas feature Vice City and a new fictional location that is based in Rio De Janeiro. Some missions will also take place in Liberty City but this will not be an open word.

GTA 6 Project Americas

The game is not going to be as realistic as RDR2 and is going to have a male protagonist. Previously we heard that the game could have a female protagonist. You should take this with a grain of salt for now.

GTA 6 Project Americas is set in 1970-80s. The source talked about the setting of the game and mentioned the following:

You play as an up and coming drug lord-wannabe named “Ricardo”. Another key character called “Kacey” is a part of the narrative. You start off as a grunt doing runs as a cocaine smuggler from Vice City to the new large South American area before making connections with big-time drug lords and making your way up. Multiple cities. There will also be a GIANT prison which will play a part in the game.

The upcoming game will have a chapter system, like Tarantino movies or RDR2. You can expect to see dynamic weather with hurricanes and floods.

Buildings will change over time as you progress through the game. Vehicles will change with the passage of time as well. The game will have a proper economy system and older cars will get expensive with the passage of time depending on how rare they are.

Inspired By Narcos

The source mentions that the game is inspired by Narcos. A younger version of Martin Madrazo is in the game along with his father. The father is a major drug lord at the time. You will be doing some work for the family which will include taking on enemy gangs.

The drug empire is a major part of the game and the mechanics will be similar to Vice City Stories but much bigger. In the new game, you can only have weapons on yourself and not in your back pocket. Just like RDR2 or Max Payne 3.

Your personal vehicle will be like the saddle of your horse in RDR2. You will be able to store items in the trunk. The vehicle can be changed as well. Body armor can be stored in the car and it is actually visible when you have it on.

GTA 6 Project Americas

The source went on to mention the following about GTA 6 Project Americas:

There will be tons of subtitle reading. Think Max Payne 3 amounts. Because the characters speak the language they’re native to. Very immersive. Like watching an episode of Narcos. Whenever you’re in South America, don’t expect to hear much English. Vice City, however, is a mix of everything. Mostly English though.

Next Generation Only

The report claims that the game will only be coming to Xbox Scarlett and PS5. There will be no port for Xbox One or PS4. The game is still in development so there might not be a plan for a port right now. It is possible that it is released later on. The report mentioned that GTA 6 is being worked on alongside another title, which is most likely Bully 2. There is no word regarding whether the game is coming to PC. From what we have seen in the GTA 6 will come to consoles first and PC later on.

The report mentioned that GTA 6 Project Americas is in pre-alpha right now. So, details like name and locations could change. The next generation of consoles will release in the Fall of 2020, so GTA 6 is going to have plenty of time. There was no mention of release date but anything before 2021 would be foolish to speculate.
