Participate In Max Raid Battles

The common way to get a Gigantamax Pokemon is to participate in Max Raid Battles. But, don’t expect it to happen every time as most battles will feature Dynamaxed Pokemon and the Gigantamax Pokemon are very very rare. You can participate in Max raid battles in offline mode too.

Play Online Events

If you play online, then you are in luck as Nintendo has increased the frequency of encountering Gigantamax Pokemon for the first few months following the game’s launch.

How To Get Gigantamax Pokemon In Pokemon Sword And Shield

Those who own Pokemon Sword will most-likely battle the Gigantamax Drednaw and those who own Pokemon Shield are more likely to encounter Corviknight.

Free Gigantamax Pokemon

Not all Gigantamax Pokemon need to be unlocked in the game as there are some of them which can be acquired for free but there are pre-requisites.

The following are the Gigantamax Pokemon which you can unlock for free in Pokemon Sword and Shield.

Gigantamax Pikachu
If your Nintendo Switch has save files from Pokemon Let’s go then you’ll unlock a special Pikachu which can Gigantamax in Pokemon Sword and Shield. You need to go to Wild Area Station to redeem it and this special Pikachu won’t be able to evolve.

Gigantamax Meowth
This Gigantamax Pokemon is only available for early purchasers. The Pokemon can be retrieved from get via internet option in Mystery Gift. Like Pikachu, this Pokemon won’t be able to evolve.

If you don’t have Switch Online membership, you’ll still be able to retrieve it as long as you are connected to the internet.

Gigantamax Eevee
Like Gigantamax Pikachu, if you have save files from Pokemon Let’s Go in your Nintendo Switch, you’ll get a special Eevee that can Gigantamax.

You just need to visit the Wild Area station to retrieve this special Pokemon and this one is also unable to evolve.
