We got the 18-minute gameplay trailer of Ghost of Tsushima and I have to say that the game looks like a much more polished AC game and I would even go as far as to call it Assassin’s Creed Japan. The video encoding was not all that great and YouTube does compress the video a lot so we could not look at the fine details.

Everything from the exploration to the action looks inspired by Assassin’s Creed Japan. While we did not see a lot of gameplay we did see things like the combat and the part where the player takes over a fortress.

How Ghost of Tsushima Looks Like Assassin’s Creed Japan

The following is why we think that Ghost of Tsushima seems inspired by Assassin’s Creed Japan:

Katana Instead Of The Spear

Ghost of Tsushima Assassin's Creed

Instead of the spear of Leonidas, we have a katana in Ghost of Tsushima. I assume that the character that we saw in the gameplay had an OP build. That is why he was able to one-shot enemies. We can see something similar in AC: Odyssey. If you have a good build then you can one-shot enemies with the hero strike ability using the spear of Leonidas.

Sneak Up Behind Enemies To Assassinate Them

Ghost of Tsushima Assassin's Creed

Just like in any AC game, you can sneak up behind enemies and take them out by assassinating them. Interestingly, you can one-shot kill enemies like in the older AC games and the upcoming AC Valhalla title.

Enemy Awareness Indicator

Event the enemy awareness indicator in Ghost of Tsushima is similar to the ones that we have seen in the previous AC game and the most recent AC: Odyssey.

Abilities

In AC: Odyssey, you can level up and gain all kinds of different abilities. That seems to be true in Ghost of Tsushima as well.

Parkour

Parkour is something that Assassin’s Creed is very well known for and we saw some of that in the gameplay live stream for Ghost of Tsushima.

Fortresses

Fortresses aren’t a new feature. We have seen them in games like Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry.

Parrying

The parrying mechanic seems very similar to that of AC games. You press and a button and time it correctly with an incoming attack then you can stun the upcoming enemy and open them up to an attack.

Armor Gives You Different Advantages

The developer confirmed that there are different kinds of armors in the game they offer different perks. We have seen something similar in AC: Odyssey in which you can set some perks and legendary gear has exclusive perks of their own which you can take advantage of if you complete the full set of armor.

Photo mode

Photo mode is nothing new and AC is not the only game series that has this feature but this is another similarity that makes us think that Ghost of Tsushima is kind of like Assassin’s Creed Japan.

Adrenaline Points

In AC: Oddysey, you gained adrenaline points when you attacked an enemy. These could be used to take advantage of different abilities. We saw something similar in the gameplay of Ghost of Tsushima. If you look at the left side of the screen, you can see golden circles that seem to be something similar.

Ghost Or Demi-God?

The developer Sucker Punch has confirmed that as you progress the game you will transform into the Ghost. In AC: Odessey, as you progress, you become more and more powerful to the point that you turn into what can be called a demi-god.

Let us know what you think of the 18-minute gameplay reveal of Ghost of Tsushima and whether or not you think it seems a lot like Assassin’s Creed Japan.
