Fortnite Chapter 2 has introduced the new fishing mechanic in the game. Fishing in Fortnite allows you to obtain powerful loot and healing items. And while you aren’t forced to go fishing if you don’t want to, the incentives of trying it out are huge. If you don’t know how to fish in Fortnite Chapter 2, you’ve come to the right place.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Fishing
The first thing you need to go fishing in Fortnite is a Fishing Rod. They aren’t particularly hard to find and can be found almost everywhere in the new map of Fortnite Chapter 2. Some of the locations where you can find a Fishing Rod include chests, barrels, lined against the walls, on the docks, and near the fishing ponds.
After you’ve found a Fishing Pole, you’ll have to equip it from your inventory to use – just like a weapon. They also have unlimited durability so you can use them indefinitely without the fear of breaking them. With a Fishing Pole in your inventory, it’s time to go fishing in Fortnite.
How to Fish in Fortnite Chapter 2?
To start fishing, you need to find a Fishing Hole. After heading to the water, press and hold the fire button to select your targeted area.
Once you’re done, release the fire button to cast your line. Once your float dips into the water, press the fire button again to reel in what you managed to catch. However, do note that you must do so quickly, otherwise, you’ll lose whatever you caught.
Fishing Tips
Now that you know how to fish in Fortnite, let’s talk about some tips that will help you make the most out of fishing:
- Never fish out in the open. Try to find a fishing spot, which is a little hidden.
- Since you’re free to move around a little while fishing, try to make a habit of doing so continuously so that you aren’t caught off-guard.
- Try to save Slurpfish if you manage to get your hands on it. It can be a game-changer going into the late game.
Now that you know how to fish in Fortnite, let’s talk about the best fishing locations in Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 1.
Best Fishing Spots in Fortnite
When it comes to fishing locations in Fortnite, you’ve got 2 options. You can either fish in calm waters or at an active fishing location. The difference between the 2 is that you’ll get better loot from fishing at an active location as opposed to fishing in calm waters.
Fortnite Chapter 2 Fish List
As of Fortnite Chapter 2, Season 1, there are only 3 types of fish in the game i.e. Sluprfish, Flopper, and Small Fry. You can instantly consume them to replenish HP and Shield. Here’s a quick rundown of all the fish available to catch in Fortnite 2 right now:
- Small Fry: Heals +25 HP for upto 75 HP in total. 6 can be carried.
- Flopper: Heals +50 HP.
- Slurpfish: Heals +50 HP. If HP is already full, it’ll provide +50 Shield.
Do note that you can only catch Flopper and Slurpfish at an active fishing location. Small Fry, on the other hand, can be caught from anywhere.
Whenever you’re near a waterbody, you should try to look for a white ring in the water. This white ring denotes the active fishing location. You should always try to fish in these areas but I should mention it here that you’ll stop getting any fish from active locations after you’ve caught about 2-3 fish from the area.
As mentioned earlier, you can also fish in Fortnite’s calm waters but doing so will net you lesser rewards as compared to fishing at an active location. You’ll, however, receive items like Wood, Brick, Metal, etc. by fishing in calm waters.
