Fallout 76: How to Farm Hardened Mass?

As you progress through Fallout 76, you will need to craft armor, weapons, and other needed items. And to do that, you will require different materials like Hardened Mass. This guide covers all there is to know about easily farming Hardened Mass in Fallout 76.

Fallout 76 Hardened Mass

It is a junk item in Fallout 76, not used for crafting directly but as a component to convert raw flux into stable flux, a key ingredient in various crafting recipes. You can only obtain Hardened Mass from dead creatures within Blast Zones, which are temporary biomes created after a nuclear warhead detonation.

They appear after a nuclear warhead is detonated, creating a temporary biome with unique characteristics and challenges. After killing enemies in these zones, check their inventory for Hardened Mass. Blast Zones only exist for a limited time (typically two hours), so it’s crucial to farm efficiently before the area resets. If you miss a Blast Zone on your server, you might have to wait three hours before another bomb can be detonated.

Complete the Enclave questline, particularly the ‘Mission: Countdown’ to gain access to nuclear launch capabilities:

  • Join the Enclave faction at the Abandoned Waste Dump in the Mire region.
  • Finish Enclave quests ‘Back to Basic’ and ‘Officer on Deck’ for Whitespring Bunker access.
  • Obtain a Nuclear Keycard through the ‘Hide and Seek and Destroy’ quest.
  • Collect Launch Codes from ghoul officers or use fan-made tools like NukaCrypt for decryption.

Choose from three silos – Alpha, Bravo, or Charlie, each located in different areas of the Savage Divide. Ensure you’re well-equipped and leveled up, as you’ll face powerful enemies en route to the launch terminal.

Once you launch a nuke and create a Blast Zone, head there quickly to start farming Hardened Mass before the two-hour limit expires. Be mindful of your carrying capacity as farming in Blast Zones can yield a lot of loot. Equip appropriate gear to protect yourself from high radiation levels and strong enemies in Blast Zones. Consider teaming up with other players to make farming in Blast Zones more efficient and safer.
