Exotic Cipher is a rare currency in Destiny 2 that lets you unlock Exotics that no longer have a source attached to them. These include Raid Exotics for the raids that have been put into Destiny Content Vault (DCV). This is a godsend for new players who have not been playing the game since launch and have missed some god-tier Exotics such as Witherhoard, Anarchy, Always on Time, etc. In this guide, we have detailed everything there is to know about all the ways you can Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2 and using them.
Destiny 2 Exotic Ciphers
As mentioned earlier, Exotic Ciphers are kind of a special currency in Destiny 2. These let you buy Exotics (Weapons and Armor) that are hard to get. Such as Exotics that do not have any source e.g., Anarchy, Legend of Acrius, etc., or have a low drop-rate.
But how can you get these Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2? There are a total of three ways:
If you reach Level 55 in the Season Pass, you will get one Exotic Cipher. Since it is available on the Free Track, you do not have to own the latest Season Pass to get it.
Xenology from Xur
The second way is by doing a small quest from Xur named Xenology. He shows up between Friday and Tuesday in different places such as Nessus, the EDZ, or the Tower. The quest requires you to do 21 Playlist Activities i.e., Strikes, Gambit, and Crucible matches. Once you finish the quest, speak to Xur and you will receive an Exotic Cipher in return.
The last way to get Exotic Ciphers is by buying the Forsaken DLC. When you purchase the DLC, you will get three Forsaken Ciphers. These can only be used for Exotics from the Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion. To receive these Forsaken Ciphers, you will need to head over to the Exotic Kiosk in The Tower.
It is important to note that these can only be used to purchase Exotics from Destiny 2: Forsaken. However, if you are not interested in those, you can always convert it into a regular Exotic Cipher.
How to Use Exotic Ciphers?
There are two main places where you can spend it. First, there is the Exotic Kiosk in The Tower. This is where you will be able to spend your Exotic Ciphers for unobtainable Exotics as well as Raid Exotics. However, one thing that you need to keep in mind is that Raid Exotics require you to have sufficient Spoils of Conquest which can only be acquired from completing raids. You will also need to have the required Expansion Packs for some of the Exotics. For example, Witherhoard requires you to have the Shadowkeep expansion.
Another way to spend your Exotic Cipher is by purchasing Xur’s Fated Engram. When purchased, these Fated Engrams grant you Exotics that you do not have yet. The first one will cost you some Legendary Shards but after that, you will need Exotic Cipher.
Lastly, you can visit Master Rahool in The Tower to get random rolls on a specific piece of Exotic Armor, provided that you have it unlocked in the Collections. This costs Exotic Engrams, 60,000 Glimmer, 3 Ascendant Shards, and an Exotic Cipher.
This is everything we have got on how to get more Exotic Ciphers in Destiny 2. If there is anything else that you would like to add, be sure to let us know!
