If you have been playing Diablo 4 on PC, then you will have noticed that the game freezes when you do certain actions, such as opening up menus, fast travel, and opening your inventory. Sometimes, the game straight up hangs or crashes altogether, forcing you to close and relaunch the game. In this Diablo 4 guide, I go over how you can fix the menu freeze and game crash errors.
How To Fix Menu Freeze And Game Crash Issues In Diablo 4
Diablo 4 on PC can freeze for minutes at a time, and this often happens when:
- Fast traveling
- Entering a different area
- The social menu
- The clan menu
- Opening the inventory
- Changing graphical settings
- Opening skill menu
High-Resolution Assets Fix
I can confirm that high-resolution assets can fix these issues and make the performance of Diablo 4 much better. If you have the high-resolution assets installed, then you should remove them. But if you have not installed them, then you should install them.
These Diablo 4 issues are not limited to older PC hardware. I have the Intel 9400F paired with an RTX 3060 Ti and still occasionally have these issues. While other players with much older hardware, such as a second-generation Intel Core i7, seem to have these issues more frequently. But Diablo 4 crashes and freezes less often when you apply the high-resolution assets fix.
System Requirements And Optimizations
Firstly, you need to make sure that your PC meets the minimum requirements to run Diablo 4. The game has reasonably low minimum requirements, and you need the Intel Core i5-2500K or AMD FX-8350 CPU, 8GB of RAM, an Nvidia GTX 660, AMD Radeon R9 280, or an Intel Arc A380 graphics card. You can check out the Diablo 4 PC requirements on the official website.
We also recommend updating to the latest graphics drivers as well as the latest Windows update. You can also try verifying and repairing the game files. You can do that by:
- Launching Battle.Net on PC
- Select Diablo 4
- Click on the Cogwheel
- Select Scan and Repair
- You will need to wait for the repair to be performed
