Destiny 2: Season of Defiance is the new season that has launched with Lightfall. A new season means a bunch of Seasonal Challenges to complete. After completed, these Seasonal Challenges reward you with EXP, Seasonal Currency, Vendor Reputation, weapons, armor, and most importantly, Bright Dust. New challenges are added each week and you have the entire season to complete. This guide will detail all the weekly Seasonal Challenges in Destiny 2: Season of Defiance alongside some tips to help you complete them easily.
Destiny 2: Season of Defiance Challenges
You do not need to complete every single challenge in the guide. While we will try to make them as simple as possible, you only need to complete 72 of these Seasonal Challenges to receive the Large Pile of Bright Dust at the end of the Season of Defiance.
Week 1 Challenges
Seasonal Challenges | Requirements | Tips to Complete |
Righteous Defiance | You need to complete Defiant Battleground: EDZ. | This one is fairly simple. All you need to do is to complete one run of Defiant Battleground: EDZ. |
Awaken, Queensguard | You need to complete Week 1 of the We Stand Unbroken questline. | You just need to complete Week 1 of the Seasonal Questline. |
Legion’s Bounty | Spend a Defiant Key to earn bonus rewards at the end of a Defiand Battlegrounds playlist activity. | To acquire these Defiant Keys, you will need to complete different Playlist Activities, campaign missions, etc. |
Silver Lining | You need to reach Rank 12 with Nimbus in Neomuna. | There is currently a glitch going on that can help you reach max rank in like half an hour. If you do not want to do that, you can complete his Bounties, collect resources on Neomuna, complete PEs, and open chests. |
Keycard Operated | You need to open 2 Terminal Overload Key Chests in Neomuna. | To receive Terminal Overload Keys from different activities, you will first need to complete the Stargazer quest in Neomuna. |
Neptune Activities | Bounties, Patrols, PEs, and Lost Sectors completed in Neomuna. | Buy a bunch of Bounties from Nimbus, farm your favorite Lost Sector until you are. If there are any PEs nearby, try to complete them as well! |
Taking All Challenges | Complete weekly playlist challenges. | You will need to run Playlist Strikes, Crucible matches, and Gambit matches to complete this one. |
Spark Defender | You need to score 50 points in Rift. You will also receive additional progress for igniting the Rift. | This one entirely comes down to how insane you are at PvP. There is not much else to say here. |
Anti-Cabal Sweep | You need to defeat Cabal combatants in Vanguard playlists or Strikes. You will also receive additional progress for defeating tougher combatants. | Try to run The Arms Dealer or Proving Grounds until you are done. |
Deadly Horizons | Calibrate weapons such as Pulse Rifles, Bows, and Trace Rifles in Neomuna. You will receive bonus progress for using these in Lost Sectors. | You should try to complete it with Neptune Activities challenge. You can use something like Ager’s Scepter to complete it quickly. |
Week 2 Challenges
Seasonal Challenges | Requirements | Tips to Complete |
Against the Shadows | Week 2 of the We Stand Unbroken completed. | You just need to complete the Seasonal Storyline. |
Favored Liberator | Favors generated in Seasonal Activities. The entire fireteam members contribute toward the overall progress. | You will complete this without even realizing. To generate Favors, you will need to purchase ‘Upgrades’ from the War Table at the H.E.L.M. |
Rohan’s Legacy | Complete the Unfinished Business questline. Also, defeat combatants on Neomuna with precision blows. You will receive bonus progress for using Machine Guns. | This one is pretty self-explanatory. Try to use a hitscan Machine Gun like Commemoration, etc. It should not be difficult. |
The Full Set | Collect and place 4 Action Figures in Neomuna. | There are a total of 8 Action Figures in Neomuna. You can refer to our detailed guide to learn more about these collectibles. |
Cosmodrome Activities | Earn progress by completing Bounties, Patrols, PEs, and Lost Sectors in Cosmodrome. | This one should be completed alongside Close-range Calibration challenge. Purchase all the Bounties from Shaw Han, enter your favorite Lost Sector, and slay with your favorite SMG, Sidearm, etc. Also, remember to complete any PEs if see any nearby. |
Lost in the Legend | Complete a Lost Sector on Legend of higher. | You just need to complete a Lost Sector on Legend of higher difficulty. Remember that these rotate daily and are way tougher than they used to be in the Witch Queen. |
Flourish of Power | Guardians defeated in Mayhem with Super abilities. | Some of the Supers that we recommend include Blade Barrage with Shards of Gallanor, Nova Bomb, Thundercrash, Needlestorm, Hammers, etc. |
Bank, Kill, Repeat | Earn points by banking Motes, defeating Blockers, and defeating Guardians in Gambit. | This will probably take you a few Gambit matches to complete. If you are decent at PvP, definitely try to invade as it provides the most progress. |
Hive Slayer | Hive combatants defeated in Vanguard Playlist or Strikes. | For this, keep on repeating something like Disgraced repeatedly until you are done. |
Close-range Calibration | Sidearms, Submachine Guns, Shotguns, Glaives, and Swords in the Cosmodrome. You will receive bonus progress for rapidly defeating targets. | Please refer to Cosmodrome Activities challenge above for more information on how to complete it. |
Week 3 Challenges
Seasonal Challenges | Requirements | Tips to Complete |
The Longest Path | Week 3 of the “We Stand Unbroken” quest completed. | You just need to complete the weekly Seasonal Story. It is usually speaking with Queen Mara and completing a run of Defiant Battlegrounds. |
Bane of the Shadow Legion | You need to defeat combatants in the Defiant Battlegrounds playlist with abilities. Strand abilities provide additional progress. | There are a few different ability-focused builds that you can use to complete this challenge. HOIL, Contraverse Hold, Starfire Protocol, Necrotic Grips, Assassin’s Cowl, Lair’s Handshake, etc. are all very decent options. |
Defiantly Defeated | You need to defeat combatants with Season of the Defiance weapons. Defeating enemies in the Seasonal Activities gives extra progress. These weapons include:
| This is as simple as it can get. Just choose whatever of these weapons you prefer the most and slay. |
Uprooted Nightmare | You need to complete every encounter in the Root of Nightmares raid. These are: | Root of Nightmares is, without a doubt, the easiest raid we have in Destiny 2 right now. If you can gather a fireteam, it should take you an hour or two at maximum to complete every encounter. |
EDZ Activities | In the EDZ, earn progress by completing Lost Sectors, PEs, Patrols, and Bounties. | Try to complete it alongside Mid-Range Calibration challenge. Grab a bunch of Bounties from Devram, enter your favorite Lost Sector, and slay with your favorite Machine Gun or Fusion Rifle. |
Commendation Appreciation | You need to give Commendations in Vanguard, Crucible, and Gambit. | Strikes are prolly the best for this. You can give out two Commendations per Strike which takes like four to five minutes. |
Iron Sharpens Iron | Iron Banner matches completed. You will earn bonus progress for winning. | Play a lot of Iron Banner and make Lord Saladin happy. That’s all to it! |
Primeval Entourage | Taken defeated in Gambit. Tougher combatants provide extra progress. | Play a lot of Gambit, defeat Blockers, slay Envoys, and nuke the Primeval whenever possible. |
Ultimate Champion | Champions defeated in any NF on Hero or above. Higher difficulty options provide extra progress. | A couple of runs on the Legend difficulty will complete it. I do not recommend running Master since it can be a pain. |
Mid-Range Calibration | Calibrate mid-range weapons i.e., HCs, Auto Rifles, Glaives, Fusions, and Machine Guns in the EDZ. | Read about the EDZ Activities challenge to complete this one. |
Week 4 Challenges
Seasonal Challenge | Requirement | Tips to Complete |
All That Matters | Week 4 of the “We Stand Unbroken” completed. | Similar to earlier weeks, you just need to complete the Weekly Questline. |
Cunning Liberator | Combatants defeated in the Defiant Battlegrounds playlist using Energy weapons. Earn bonus progress if they also deal Void or Arc damage. | This one is very simple. Thanks to Volatile Rounds this season, Void final blows are really easy to get. |
Focused Defiance | You need to Decode or Focus a total of 10x Defiant Engrams at the War Table during Season of Defiance. | By now, you should have an abundance of Defiant Engrams lying around. Decode these and you will be done. |
Strandweaver | The Final Strand questline completed. Also, rapidly defeat combatants throughout Neomuna using a Sidearm. | For this one, you need to acquire The Final Warning sidearm. You can use it to defeat enemies across Neomuna to complete the second step. |
Mod Collector | Unlock a total of 12 Artifact Mods. | This one requires you to be around Level 110 on the Season Pass. Just grind a lot of Bounties and Seasonal Challenges and you will be done in no time. |
Momentum Crash | 50x Guardians defeated in Momentum Control. Earn bonus progress with Zone Advantage. | This one entirely depends on how good you are at PvP. It might take you 1-2 games or 10-12. |
Razor’s Edge | You will need to defeat targets with Swords, Bows, and Glaives in Gambit. Bonus progress for defeating Guardians. | We recommend something like Lament, Trinity Ghoul, and Vexcalibur for this. If you are invading, you can also use Leviathan’s Breath. |
Darkest Nightfall | Complete any NF strike on Hero difficulty or higher. | If you have a good fireteam, you can complete a Master run. If not, stick to completing a few on Hero difficulty. |
Precision Calibration | Calibrate marksman weapons i.e., Scout Rifles, Sniper Rifles, and Linear Fusion Rifles by landing precision final blows. You will also get bonus progress for defeating Guardians. | It is possible to complete this alongside Momentum Crash if you can use Jade Rabbit, DMT, or any Sniper Rifle. |
Week 5
Seasonal Challenge | Requirements | How to Complete |
Still Standing | You need to complete Week 5 of the We Stand Unbroken. | You just need to complete the Weekly Questline. That is pretty much all! |
Legendary Liberator | Complete a Defiant Battleground on Legend. | There is no matchmaking for the Legend difficulty so you will need to have a premade Fireteam. You will also be power-capped so make sure to keep this in mind! |
Favored Warrior | Favors of Justice, Grace, and Zeal earned in Season of Defiance activities. Bonus progress for Legend difficulty. | At this point in the season, you should have enough upgrades to create Favors. I recommend completing it alongside Legedary Liberator. |
Friendly Neighborhood Guardian | Complete a weekly mission from Lightfall on Hero or higher. | These missions rotate on a weekly basis. Completing it on Hero should not be hard at all! |
Unraveling the Sun | Guardians defeated in PvP. Bonus progress for defeating with Solar, Strand, and Void abilities. | This one entirely depends on how good you are at PvP. Try to get a lot of Ability Kills to make it go by quickly. |
Dredging Up Victory | Gambit matches completed. Earn bonus progress for wins. | Try to play with a Fireteam if possible. There is nothing else to say about this one. |
Adversaries of Humanity | You need to defeat Taken and Vex bosses in Strikes. | For this one, you just repeatedly do Strikes with Vex/Taken until you are done. Some that I recommend are Glassway, The Inverted Spire, and Lake of Shadows. |
Righteous Blade | Unlock the Ecliptic Distaff. | You need to increase your rank with Zavala, Shaxx, or Drifter. Pretty simple as long as you are doing Playlist Activities. |
Week 6
Seasonal Challenge | Requirements | Tips to Complete |
Forceful Liberator | Defeat combatants in the Defiant Battlegrounds playlist using Power weapons. Earn bonus progress if they also deal Solar damage. | You need to try something that has good ammo economy. Swords, Machine Guns, etc. are really good. |
Relentless Liberator | Gain bonus rewards using a Defiant Key at the end of Defiant Battlegrounds playlist activities on both Normal and Legend difficulties. Defiant Keys can be earned by completing Lightfall campaign missions, Terminal Overload in Neomuna, raids, Vanguard, etc. | At this point in the season, you should have more than enough Defiant Keys to spend. Just use 3x of these at the end of a Defiant Battlegrounds run to complete it. |
Vexing Liberator | Vex defeated with Seasonal weapons. These are Perpetualis, Prodigal Return, Regnant, Caretaker, Raconteur, and Royal Executioner. Bonus progress awarded for Vex defeated in Seasonal activities. | Since you only need to defeat 150 Vex enemies, you can try to use a Primary Weapon. |
Defiant Crucible Ornament | Acquire the Crucible ornament for Ecliptic Distaff. | This one is entirely dependant on your skill level. To get it, you will need to reset your Crucible rank twice. |
Elegent Weaponry | Defeat combatants in Vanguard playlists or strikes while using a Sword, Bow, or Glaive. | Defeating 100 enemies using Trinity Ghoul is very simple. |
Absolutely Stunning | Champions stunned. | For this, throw a Duskfield Grenade on an Overload Champion, stun it once, and keep on repeating. It’s very simple. |
Week 7 Challenges
Seasonal Challenge | Requirements | Tips to Complete |
Eternal Queensguard | Complete a flawless run in any Defiant Battlegrounds playlist location. | In the previous seasons, only the person that needed the challenge could not die which allowed the other two players to push forward and the person that needed the flawless simply camped in the back. We would also recommend trying out Defiant Battlegrounds: EDZ since it is the shortest one. Other than that, things like Healing Grenades, Ward of Dawn, Well of Radiance, Devour, etc. can come in handy. |
Defiant Focus | Decode or focus Defiant Engrams at the War Table during Season of Defiance. | By this time in the season, you should have a billion Defiant Engrams lying in your inventory. Simply decode or focus them to get the challenge done. |
Favored Liberator | Favors generated in Seasonal activities. All members of your current fireteam contribute to overall progress. | Since it is a team-wide challenge (thanks, Bungie) it shouldn’t be difficult to complete in a couple of runs. |
Fleeting Glory | Crucible matches completed in the Competitive playlist. Earn bonus progress for wins. | Like we always say, the Crucible challenge completely depends on your PvP prowess. If you can rack up some wins, you will be done with it in no time. If not, put on your favorite music, turn your brain off, and play until you are done. |
High-Value Hunter | Defeat powerful combatants in Gambit. Earn bonus progress for defeating high-value targets. | For this one, your only concerns are HVTs, Blockers, Primeval Envoys, and Primeval. Keep an eye on these and make sure to land 1-2 bullets before your teammates nuke them. |
Grandmaster | Complete any Nightfall strike on Grandmaster. | Grandmaster NFs require you to have a premade fireteam. As for the easiest Grandmaster that you can complete this season, it has to be Lake of Shadows or The Arms Dealer. One thing that we highly recommend is that you be around 1820 Power Level to make it as smooth as possible unless you absolutely know what you are doing. |
Week 8 Challenges
Seasonal Challenge | Requirements | Tips to Complete |
Size Defying | Champions or Bosses defeated in Defiant Battleground playlist. Bonus progress is awarded for those defeated on Legend difficulty. | If you are close to the Pinnacle cap and have a fireteam that can handle the Legend difficulty, we recommend going for the bonus progress. |
Relentless Liberator | Gain bonus rewards using a Defiant Key at the end of Defiant Battlegrounds playlist activities on both Normal and Legend difficulty. | You can complete it alongside the previous challenge. After completing a run of Defiant Battlegrounds, use a Defiant Key to get the bonus rewards. Another important thing that you need to keep in mind is that you cannot hold more than 5 Defiant Keys at any given time, therefore, try to use them whenever possible. As for getting these Defiant Keys, you can earn them from Lightfall campaign missions, Terminal Overload, raids, Vanguard playlists, etc. |
Trial by Firing Squad | Win 20 rounds in the Trials of Osiris. | This one is entirely dependent on your PvP prowess. However, even if you are not good at PvP, you should be able to win 20 rounds in less than an hour. |
Defiant Gambit Ornament | Acquire the Gambit ornament for Ecliptic Distaff. | There are no tips for this one: turn your brain off, play Gambit, complete Bounties, and reset Drifter’s rank twice. |
Defiant Calibration | Swords, Bows, and Glaives calibrated. Bonus progress for defeating Guardians. | Trinity Ghoul is pretty good for this. You can also pair it with a Sword to double-dip. |
This is all we have in our Destiny 2: Season of Defiance Challenges guide. If you have any other questions, be sure to let us know!
