Destiny 2 Magnum Opus Quest Guide – Unlock Forerunner Exotic Sidearm

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus Quest Guide

To celebrate Bungie’s 30th anniversary, all Destiny 2 players can earn a new exotic sidearm, Forerunner, which is modeled after Magnum from Halo. The sidearm is a powerhouse in every sense of the word and completing the Exotic Quest to unlock it does not take very long. In this Destiny 2 guide, we have detailed all there is to know about how to complete the Magnum Opus quest to unlock Forerunner sidearm.

Destiny 2 Magnum Opus

Forerunner is a Special sidearm with ridiculous stats across the board. At the time of writing this, it slaps in PvE and can three-tap a Guardian in PvP. We would not be surprised if it is brought down a notch in a future update. Below, we have provided all the steps needed to complete the Magnum Opus:

Collect 7 Strange Coins

To begin, the player needs to collect a total of 7 Strange Coins. These can be earned by completing Dares of Eternity, Strikes, Crucible, Gambit, Bounties, etc. It should not take long to complete this step.

Complete Starhorse Bounties

The next step is to complete 3 Starhorse Bounties – these can be acquired from Juan in Xur’s Treasure Hoard. There are a few things to note before doing these bounties:

  • Only a single bounty can be picked up at any given time.
  • The bounty must be completed in a single run of Dares of Eternity.
  • These bounties do not expire.
  • The bounty can be refunded to get Strange Coins back.

Once these Starhorse Bounties are completed, return to Xur.

Acquire the Strange Key

To complete this step, the player must have a ‘Brave’ reputation rank with Xur – this is incredibly easy to do. It can easily be achieved by completing a couple of bounties. Once done, acquire the Strange Key from Xur and use the pink teleporter to enter the area where Dares of Eternity takes place.

Entering the Strange Key

After heading over to the Dares of Eternity arena, head over to the right side of the area – just before the main stage where enemies appear during the activity. There should be a small rock there that can be investigated. However, do note that it can act weird and the player will probably need to adjust quite a while to get it done.

Once that is done, follow the marker on the far side. It should take the player inside a dark cave with a fairly linear path. Continue to follow the path to the top to interact with a Cryopod.

Visit Banshee-44

Once all the steps above have been completed, head over to Banshee-44 in The Tower to acquire the Forerunner AKA Magnum M06 from Halo: Combat Evolved.

Forerunner Catalyst

In order to get the Forerunner catalyst, the player needs to reach Reputation Rank 16 with Xur. Once completed, the catalyst gives it another perk called The Rock.

This basically lets the player sacrifice some ammo to create a Frag Grenade (only after scoring a kill) that can also be used to frag-jump just like the good old Halo days.

This is all we have got in how to complete the Exotic Quest, Magnum Opus, to get the Forerunner sidearm in Destiny 2. For more help on the game, be sure to check out our detailed Destiny 2 wiki page.
