There is no shortage of underwhelming raid bosses in Destiny 2 and Nezarec from the new Root of Nightmares raid is the latest addition to this list. Nezarec, the Final God of Pain is the last boss of the new Root of Nightmares raid in Destiny 2: Lightfall. It is a fairly simple boss encounter but there are some tips that can help you make it even easier than it already is. In this guide, we will help you learn everything you need to know about easily defeating Nezarec in Root of Nightmares.

Root of Nightmares: Nezarec Boss Fight

For whatever reason, there is not a single new mechanic or even the tiniest variation in this boss fight. You are essentially doing the exact same thing you did in the first two encounters of the raid i.e. connecting the orbs — Dark and Light — on both sides until the DPS starts. Below is a quick rundown of the entire encounter:

After rallying, split the fireteam into three teams of two — two in middle, two on right, and two on left.

The jobs of the left and right teams are pretty simple: one person will continue to connect the nodes while the other person clears enemies. There is not much to clear anyways. Just a few Shadow Legion, a Colossus, and Nezarec roaming around the entire area. Two people in the middle area are responsible for enemies and destroying Nezarec’s weakspots — one on each shoulder and one on the chest. This is why it is important to have something like a Sniper, Arbalest, etc. It is important to keep on destroying his weakspots whenever they appear or he will make it harder for other persons to do their jobs.

After both the node chains have been completed, the DPS will start. At this point, everyone needs to gather on a plate that is nearest to Nezarec, place down a Well of Radiance, and do damage until he is immune. Throughout the DPS phase, he will jump into the air, teleport everywhere, slam his large hammer on top of everyone, etc. We really recommend having someone with a Divinity since it is incredibly hard to land all your shots without it.

After he is immune, run around the area for ammo, and repeat the entire thing until it is time to DPS again. During its final stand, he will just stand still, allowing you to finish him off easily.

How to Avoid Wipe Mechanic

If your runners are slow in connecting nodes, Nezarec will start to channel a wipe mechanic. Not a lot of people know this but there is a way to avoid it. The persons shooting the weakspots in the middle will need to pay attention to the color of light that emits from Nezarec when his weakspots are shot — it will either be Dark or Light.

To avoid the wipe mechanic, you need to collect the buff that Nezarec emitted and dunk it at the opposite node — it is important to dunk it on a node that has already been completed. For instance, if Nezarec emitted the Dark, the person doing the Dark nodes will carry the buff to an already completed Light node to receive a ‘Refuge’ buff that lasts for fifteen seconds.

Best DPS Options

Since he does not have a lot of HP, you can use almost anything to do DPS. Some things that we recommend for an easy one-phase are:

  • Starfire Protocol Warlocks with Demolitionist Rocket Launchers
  • One Player with Divinity
  • 5x Thunderlord’s
  • It is also important to have only one person running Witherhoard

This is how you can easily beat Nezarec in the new Root of Nightmares raid in Destiny 2: Lightfall. If you have any other questions, be sure to let us know in the comments below!
