Umbral Engrams, as of right now, are the quickest way of increasing your PL to 1050 in Destiny 2 Season of Arrivals. They are a new type of Legendary Engrams in the game that contains loot from the updated world pool as well as previous seasons. There is, however, currently a glitch in the game that has a chance to grant you +4 or +5 PL items when opening these Umbral Engrams. Doing this requires you to have plenty of Umbral Engrams and Altered Elements. The fastest method of earning these Umbral Engrams and Altered Elements is AFK Forge farming. If you do not know how this works, in this Destiny 2 guide, we have detailed everything you need to know about how to AFK Forge farm to farm Umbral Engrams and Altered Elements.

Update: The exploit has now been patched. Now, after the forge event is completed the game will boot you back into orbit and you will have to launch the event manually.

Destiny 2 AFK Forge Farm

First of all, let us talk about how you can earn Powerful Rewards from Umbral Engrams. With an Umbral Engram in your inventory, take it to Prismatic Recaster near the Drifter at the Annex and focus it into Armor Focused Engram. Remember that doing this requires you have 50 Altered Elements.

Once you have focused an Umbral Engram into an Armored Focused Engram, decode it and you will have a 30% chance of it dropping at +4 or +5 higher than your equipped piece. There are a few legit ways of farming Umbral Engrams which are Adept Nightmare Hunts, Contact PE on Io, Vanguard Strikes, etc. I have found the Adept Nightmare Hunts (860) to be the most efficient as they also provide Altered Elements and can be completed in under 5 minutes with a fireteam.

However, if you do not like to put in any effort at all, you can simply farm Forges while being AFK. Doing so should reward you with plenty of Umbral Engrams and Altered Elements without even moving the mouse. In about 2 hours of AFK farming, you should have around 8 Umbral Engrams and some Altered Elements.

How to AFK Forge Farm?

First of all, do note that to AFK farm, you must bring your PL below 750, otherwise, you will be matched with players who may be trying to complete the Forges for “Blacksmith” or something else and by being AFK, you will ruin their experience, please do not be that one person.

Dropping your PL below 750 is as easy as it can get. This is how you can do it:

  • Get 750 PL Armor from Planetary Vendors
  • Pull out 24 PL Class Item from the “Leveling” section of your Collections
  • Pull out 0 PL Halloween Mask from the “Misc.” section of Flair
  • Use any 750 Weapons (Not Required)

After dropping your PL to below 750, start a Forge and go to sleep. Do note that by being below 750, you will only be matched with players who are also AFK farming so you will not be hurting anyone at all. Also, remember that if you are constantly being kicked to Orbit, try to put on your regular gear/weapons and complete a Forge normally.

If you are unable to drop your Power Level below 750, you can paste the following code in Notepad and save the file as “d1solo.ps1”.

if (!([Security.Principal.WindowsPrincipal][Security.Principal.WindowsIdentity]::GetCurrent()).IsInRole([Security.Principal.WindowsBuiltInRole] “Administrator”)) { Start-Process powershell.exe “-NoProfile -ExecutionPolicy Bypass -File `”$PSCommandPath`”” -Verb RunAs; exit }

Write-Host “Destiny 2 Solo mode activated. Press Enter to deactivate solo mode.”

Remove-NetFirewallRule -DisplayName “Destiny2-Solo-2”

Now go to the saved file and open it with PowerShell. Once opened and properly loaded, press ‘A’ and hit enter. This should allow you to enter in any matchmade activity (except Crucible and Gambit) solo. You should be able to do this at any PL since we have blocked the matchmaking by Destiny 2. It is also perfect to complete various Vanguard Bounties.

Lastly, do note that there are chances that the method might get patched today so try to make the most of it while it lasts.

This is how you can AFK Forge farm in Destiny 2 Season of Arrivals to farm Umbral Engrams and power level your way to 1050. For more help on the game, you can check out our detailed Destiny 2 wiki guides.
