Dark Souls 3 Abyss Watchers Boss Fight (Easy Cheese)

Are you ready to take on the challenge of the Abyss Watchers in Dark Souls 3? As one of the main story bosses, the Abyss Watchers present a daunting challenge with their two enduring phases.

Located in Farron Keep, this fight is mandatory and essential for unlocking access to the next main area. Not only that, but defeating the Abyss Watchers rewards you with valuable items that can be sold for Souls or transposed into powerful weapons.

In this guide, we’ll give you all the information you need to take down this formidable opponent and claim your rewards.

Abyss Watchers Location

You can find the Abyss Watchers inside Farron Keep as part of the main story.

Abyss Watchers Weakness

Abyss Watchers are weak to lightning attacks.

How to Beat Abyss Watchers in Dark Souls 3

Abyss Watchers boss fight has two phases you must complete:

  • Abyss Watchers Phase #1
  • Abyss Watchers Phase #2

Abyss Watchers Phase #1

During the initial stage of the battle, you will engage in a chaotic confrontation with multiple Abyss Watchers. Although only one initially attacks, more will awaken as the fight progresses. While the possibility of being overwhelmed by the sheer number of opponents is a concern, the Abyss Watchers are not selective in their attacks and will even strike their allies.

To increase your chances of survival, it is recommended to position the opponent you are fighting with their back towards the rest of the room. This will divert the attention of the other combatants away from you and toward your current enemy.

The Abyss Watchers possess powerful wide sweeps and lunges in their arsenal. To avoid their short-range combo slashes, you should repeatedly dodge, while a single well-timed dodge should suffice for their forward charges. Phase #1 will last for the entire duration of the Abyss Watchers’ health bar.

Abyss Watchers Phase #2

Once you’ve cleared the main group of enemies, a tougher opponent will appear. This particular foe is wielding a flaming sword and is skilled at dodging to avoid your attacks.

To stay safe, try to provoke the boss into using long-range attacks, which are easier to dodge. Use this opportunity to create distance between you and the boss, and take a swig from your Estus Flask if necessary. However, be careful not to attempt healing while up close, as this is likely to backfire. Even healing from afar can be dangerous if the boss hasn’t already missed, as it can move towards you quickly.

Avoid lengthy combos and let the boss make its dodges. Instead, move in for a few quick hits before retreating. The main danger in this stage is the fire trail left by the boss’s attacks. If you step into an area recently covered in flames, you’ll take damage, and the fire can even disrupt your attacks.

If you manage to defeat the boss, take a moment to catch your breath and celebrate your victory over one of the formidable Lords of Cinder.

How to Cheese Abyss Watchers

Summon Londor Pale Shade

To cheese Abyss Watchers, you should summon the Londor Pale Shade NPC. But don’t summon until all enemies in the area are killed. When the Abyss Watcher starts attacking, back away and throw out the Pestilent Mist spell to eat away the boss’s health slowly. In the second stage of the fight, continue to use the Pestilent Mist if desired, but the boss is faster and harder to distract, so it’s better to use a distance spell such as a pyromancy or lightning spell.

Important: Don’t summon the NPC until all enemies on the path to the Abyss Watchers are killed. Take out all the enemies in the area before summoning the NPC to avoid losing their health or getting distracted.

That’s everything you need to know about how to cheese Abyss Watchers. We have other guides to help you out, including the Curse-rotted Greatwood boss fight and Crystal Sage boss fight.
