Cyberpunk 2077 PC is facing errors and issues like Cyberpunk 2077 has Flatlined error, Key Binding Failed, the game not saving, crash at startup, in-game crash, game not stating on Windows 7, low FPS, stuttering, Disk Write Error, no AVX instructions set, no audio, and more. Here I have compiled a list of errors and issues with Cyberpunk 2077 PC along with their fixes and workarounds.
Cyberpunk 2077 Crash, Flatlined, And Fixes
After numerous delays, Cyberpunk 2077 has finally launched for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. Cyberpunk is an optimized game, at least that’s what the impression its system requirements give. However, PC players are reporting errors and issues with Cyberpunk 2077 like Flatlined Error, Key Binding Failed, the game not saving, the game not launching on Windows 7, in-game crash, game crashing at startup, no audio, cracking/ stuttering audio, non-AVX CPUs not launching the game, and more.
The following are the errors and issues that PC players are experiencing with Cyberpunk 2077 along with their fixes and workarounds.
Cyberpunk 2077 has Flatlined Error Fix
According to Cyberpunk 2077 PC players, they are unable to play the game as they get the following error.
Whoa! Cyberpunk 2077 has flatlined!
First of all, if you are playing on an old CPU that lacks the AVX instruction set, that is causing the “Flatline” error. There is no fix for this other than upgrading the CPU. However, CD Projekt Red might roll out a patch to fix it. However, there is a workaround for this error. Check “EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION (0xC000001D) Fix” below for the AVX workaround.
If your CPU does have the AVX support then, try allowing Cyberpunk 2077 through the firewall and update the GPU Driver. In case the issue persists, then you might be using a third-party tool or software like MSI afterburner or RGB software. Disable any third-party software you are using along with Steam overlay and Geforce Experience overlay. This should fix the Cyberpunk 2077 has Flatlined Error.
In case the Cyberpunk 2077 Flatlined is still bothering you. Update your GPU driver to the latest version and do a clean installation. Open Nvidia Control Panel and enable Debug Mode under Help. Restart your PC and launch Cyberpunk 2077. This time you won’t get the Flatlined error.
If the error is still bothering you, then Right-click the game in Steam library > Properties > Local Files tab > click Browse Local Files. Launch the game directly from the game’s exe file. You’ll probably get an error telling you “vcruntime140_1.dll is missing or MSVCP140.dll Was Not Found”. This can be fixed by installing both x86 and x64 Visual C++ redistributables.
In case the above fixes haven’t worked, go to Go to C:\Users\”your username”\AppData\Local|CD Projekt Red\Cyberpunk 2077. Delete the files in this folder and launch the game. Cyberpunk will launch without any Flatlined error.
Game Not Saving Fix
There are some Cyberpunk 2077 PC players who are unable to save their game. Here is how to fix it. The first fix players need to try is to give Cyberpunk 2077 admin rights. Right-click REDprelauncher > properties > Compatibility tab > check “run this program as administrator” and hit apply. This should allow the game to save.
If the game is still not saving, then you might have enabled OneDrive backup for the Documents. Disable the OneDrive backup and the Save Game error will be fixed.
In case Cyberpunk 2077 is till not saving on Windows 10, open Settings > Update & Security > Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > Manage ransomware protection. Here players can just simply turn off Controlled Folder Access or allow Cyberpunk 2077 through it. Either way, this will fix the save game issue.
If you have decided to allow Cyberpunk 2077 through Controlled Folder Access, then click the Allow an app through Controlled folder access > click “Add an allowed app” > Browse all apps. Now browse to the Cyberpunk’s install folder and allow REDprelauncher through it. This will allow the game to save your progress.
For BitDefender on Windows 7, Go to the Dashboard > Protection tab > Click on Application Access under the Safe Files applet > Flag the checkmark for Cyberpunk 2077. This will fix the issue.
Key Binding Failed Fix
PC players are unable to key bind certain keys in Cyberpunk 2077 which is odd and annoying. According to players, they get the Key Binding Failed error when they try to bind keys. There is a workaround to this error.
Right-click the game in Steam library > Properties > Local Files tab > click Browse Local Files. Navigate to Cyberpunk 2077 > r6 > config. Open “inputUserMappings.xml” in notepad and press Ctrl + F. Look for the key you want to bind by typing “IK_’the key you want to bind'”. For example, if you want to bind the F key, type the following with quotes.
Replace every instance of it with another key that you don’t intend to use very often like “IK_G” or replace ‘G’ with any key you want. Save the file and launch Cyberpunk 2077. Now you’ll be able to bind the key you just unbound in the notepad file. This will fix the Key Binding Failed error with Cyberpunk.
EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION (0xC000001D), AVX Fix
According to PC players, Cyberpunk 2077 crashes with the Expression: EXCEPTION_ILLEGAL_INSTRUCTION (0xC000001D) error. This particular error pops up if you are playing Cyberpunk on an old CPU that doesn’t support AVX instructions set.
While players have to wait for CD Projekt Red to release a patch and fix it, there is a workaround to fix the Cyberpunk 2077 error 0xC000001D. Open Cyberpunk2077.exe in a hexadecimal editor. Search for “554881ECA00000000F2970E8” and change the first byte to C3 which means change it to “C34881ECA00000000F2970E8”.
In case you don’t know how this works, check this video showcasing how to replace “554881ECA00000000F2970E8” with “C34881ECA00000000F2970E8”. This will fix the error. However, this fix might not work for everyone and won’t completely eliminate the need for the AVX instructions set.
If we look at the game’s system requirements, they give us the impression that Cyberpunk 2077 is an optimized game for PC. However, PC players are reporting low FPS, stuttering, and random FPS drops issue with high-end systems and PCs that match the recommended requirements. Here is how to fix stuttering and low FPS issue with Cyberpunk 2077.
First, checkout our Cyberpunk 2077 PC Performance Fix to boost FPS without compromising visuals quality.
Make sure you have installed the latest GPU driver and there is no background process using too much CPU, GPU, or HDD.
Open Settings > Gaming > Game Mode. Turn on the game Mode as it might fix the stuttering. Then open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program settings > select Cyberpunk 2077 and make the following changes.
Anti-aliasing-FXAA – “Off”
Anti-aliasing-Gamma Correction – “Off”
CUDA GPUs – “All”
Low Latency Mode – Ultra.
Set Power Management to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
Shader Cache – “On” only if you are using an HDD. Don’t need to enable it for an SSD.
Set Texture filtering – Quality to “High Performance”
Triple Buffering – “Off”
Set Vertical Sync to “Use the 3D application setting”
Apply these settings and not only stuttering will be fixed but, players might also see a boost in performance. In case the performance issues aren’t fixed, set Vertical Sync to “Fast” in Nvidia Control Panel. Launch the game and disable in-game v.sync. This will fix stuttering with Cyberpunk. Also, see our Cyberpunk 2077 PC optimization Guide to boost FPS.

attributes disk clear readonly.
If the Disk Write Error is still bothering you, close Steam and navigate to Steam/logs/content_log. Scroll down and look for “failed to write”. Open the file and it’ll have the path for the corrupted files causing the error. Follow these paths and delete the corrupted files. Launch Steam and start the game. The deleted files will be redownloaded and the error will be fixed.
A lot of PC players are reporting the Cyberpunk 2077 in-game crash issue while playing. According to players, the game crashes randomly while playing. Here is how to fix the in-game crash.
One reason for the game to crash could be the use of third-party tools and software like MSI Afterburner or any RGB software. Disable any third-party software you are using and the crashing issue will be fixed.
Steam overlay and GeForce Experience overlay are also the reason why Cyberpunk is crashing in-game. Disable them and the issue will be resolved.
Your CPU not supporting AVX instructions set is another reason why Cyberpun 2077 is crashing. Check “AVX Fix” above to see who to fix this particular crash.
While the chances of this are slim but your CPU might be causing the game to crash. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program settings > select Cyberpunk 2077. select “Ultra” for the Low Latency Mode and select “off” for Tripple Buffering and hit apply. This should stop the Cyberpunk 2077 in-game crash.
If the above fixes didn’t work, then your GPU might the cause of the crash. Update the GPU driver and do a clean installation. This should fix the crash issue.
In case the game is still crashing, either the GPU is overclocked or is old or perhaps the game isn’t optimized at launch and is putting a lot of load on the GPU.
If the GPU is overclocked, revert it back to its default GPU clock even if it’s factory overclocked. If the GPU Is old or you suspect that the game is stressing the GPU too much causing the crash, then use MSI Afterburner and reduce the GPU clock by 100 MHz.
In case you don’t want to mess with the GPU clock, then alternatively players can limit the game’s max FPS. Lock the game to 60 FPS if you are playing at an unlocked FPS. If you are targeting 60 FPS then limit the game to 30 FPS. It’ll significantly reduce CPU and GPU load and Cyberpunk 2077 won’t crash anymore.
Black Screen Fix
According to some PC players, Cyberpunk 2077 is launching with a black screen while the audio plays in the background. Launch the game and when the black screen appears, press “Alt + Enter”. The game will go into Windowed mode and will start to display.
If the scenario isn’t the case, then update your GPU drivers and do a clean installation. Also, update your Windows 10 if you haven’t already. This will fix the Cyberpunk 2077 black screen issue.
Game Not Starting, Crash At Starup Fix
Cyberpunk 2077 players are reporting that they are unable to play the game as the game crashes at startup or doesn’t launch at all. There are multiple reasons behind the Cyberpunk 2077 crash at startup issue and here is how to fix it.
If you are playing the game on a 32-bit OS, then you are out of luck as the game doesn’t support it. Upgrade to a 64-bit OS even if it’s WIndows 7 and the game will work. For Windows 10, make sure your OS is updated.
Another reason could be a corrupted file. Verify Game files through Steam and the client will detect it and will automatically download the non-corrupted version of the file. This will stop the game from crashing at launch.
Also, if you playing the game on an old CPU like AMD Phenom II, then you need to upgrade your CPU as the game requires a CPU with certain instructions set that old ones lack. But, there is a workaround for this. See under “AVX Fix” above to potentially fix this issue.
Lack of admin rights could be the reason why the game is crashing at launch. Right-click on REDprelauncher > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “Run this program as an administrator” and hit apply. Launch the game and it should not crash.
Your anti-virus/Windows Security might be blocking important game files and causing the game to crash at startup. Either disable the real-time protection or exclude the Cyberpunk 2077’s install folder from it. For Windows Security, open Windows Security > Virus & Threat Protection > click “Manage Settings” under “Virus & Threat Protection settings”. Disable the “Real-Time Protection”. After that, verify game files and launch the game. It should be working fine.
If Cyberpunk 2077 is still crashing, then right-click the game in Steam library > Properties > Local Files tab > click Browse Local Files. Launch the game directly from REDprelauncher. Chances are, you’ll get an error similar to “vcruntime140_1.dll or MSVCP140.dll Was Not Found”. This can be fixed by installing the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables both x64 and x86 versions.
Graphics Driver Crash Fix
Some Cyberpunk 2077 PC players are reporting that the game crashes with the error message that the graphics driver has crashed. The first thing players need to do is to do a clean re-installation of the graphics driver.
Right-click the game in Steam library > Properties > Local Files tab > click Browse Local Files. Launch Cyberpunk 2077 directly from REDprelauncher instead of Steam. This will fix the error.
If that doesn’t fix the issue, then try limiting the game to 30 FPS. This will reduce the GPU load and won’t let Cyberpunk 2077 crash.
Game Not Launching On Windows 7 Fix
According to some Windows 7 users, the game doesn’t launch at all on the OS. First, make sure your OS is 64-bit as the game doesn’t support 32-bit OS. If you have installed the 64-bit Windows 7, then install the Windows Update KB2670838-x64 and restart your PC. This will fix the Cyberpunk 2077 not launching issue on Windows 7.
No Audio Fix
Cyberpunk 2077 PC players are reporting that they aren’t getting any in-game audio. One reason for this issue could be the software for the external sound card you are using or the built-in one like Realtek audio software. Terminate the audio software and the sound will be working in-game.
Launch the game and minimize it. Open Settings > System > Sound > click “App volume and device preferences” under Advanced Sound Options. Cyberpunk will be one of the options under Apps. Choose the correct audio device for it and switch back to the game. The audio will be working fine.
Crackling Audio, Audio Stuttering Fix
Crackling or stuttering audio is another issue that PC players are experiencing. The v.sync might be causing the audio to stutter. Launch Cyberpunk and disable in-game v.sync. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Setting > select Cyberpunk 2077. set Vertical sync to “Fast” and hit apply. This will fix the issue.
