In Mount and Blade 2: Bannerlord caravans are essential for providing automatic routes for trading. Starting a caravan for the first time in the game can be a bit difficult, as finding the right artisan NPCs is not easy if you are not aware of their location. In this Mount And Blade 2: Bannerlord guide, we are going to go over how you can start a caravan.

For now, there are several vague areas regarding the Caravan system in the game. There is no apparent way to interact with the thing. You have no control over the stock the caravan takes, the cost it is sold at, or the areas to which it travels. All you have to do is buy the Caravan and then the rest of the associated things happen without any interference from you.

First, you are required to choose a location. It is wise to choose an area that is deeper inside rather than a frontline town as they might be under siege or captured, making any trade impossible. Any large town that has workshops and taverns will be ideal. When you arrive at the town you can choose someone to have a conversation with or you can find them whilst taking a walk through the streets.

The person you need to find should be an Artisan, a person with a craft. Their names would be a very clear indication of that, for example, Caribos the Carpenter, so this task won’t be too complicated. You simply need to strike up a chat with the Artisan and inquire about forming a caravan in the location. The price of this will be around 15,000 Denar.

Once you have the Caravan, a companion will also be needed to travel with and protect it. Currently, it can cost you -200 to -400 each day for the function of the Caravan. After several in-game weeks have passed, the cost will begin to drop and your caravan will start to turn in a profit. But the process is pretty slow. So creating an alternative save, is highly recommended before buying a caravan.
