Modern Warfare 2 (2022) is what you call a “soft reboot.” you might feel a little duped if you play the new Modern Warfare 2 with the intent of taking a stroll down memory lane. The names and characters might be the same old, but that is where the similarity ends. Soap, MacTavish, Ghost, and other known characters are put into an entirely different story. The game mechanics are different as well.
However, if you keep an open mind and give the game a chance, there will be much fun. There is the good old Call of Duty entertainment, and the story might not be the best out there, but it gets the “good enough for a shooty game” award from us.
Weapon Customization
One of the new mechanics introduced in MW2 is the customization of weapons. There is endless variation in how you can modify weapons according to your play style. One of the features I am thankful for is the optic modifications. You can put any sight on any gun.
Veterans of Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 (2009) might remember facing this problem. The game had an excellent selection of guns and sights, but the stars only partially aligned right, and either the gun did not feel right, or if the gun was okay, then it had iron sights which made it useless for any ranged combat. Iron sights are a good option for competitive gameplay, but the lack of magnification can hurt in varying situations.
Best Sights in MW2
Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 has over 50 sights you can put on different guns, which cannot be evident at times, so we have made a top four list to simplify matters. These can be unlocked by leveling up your gun. Different sights are unlocked at different levels. A quick trip to the gunsmith and you can find out what level your gun is at and at what level your desired sight can be unlocked.
Cronen Mini Pro
As a fan of the dot-crosshair in Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, the Cronen Mini Pro is easy to recommend. The small blue dot is least intrusive when aiming down sights, and enemies are not covered by a hideous giant blob acting as your crosshair.
When combined with assault rifles, it makes for a deadly combo in mid-range shootouts. The switching speed from aiming from the hip to aiming down sights might not be the fastest, but the reticle is big enough to zoom in on a large area. Switching frequently is not required. To unlock Cronen Mini Pro, get the “Expedite 12” gun to level 7.
Slimeline Pro
A red-dot sight that follows the “beauty in simplicity” philosophy. The minuscule red dot is high contrast enough against a range of different backgrounds and does not obstruct your view a lot.
The large area this sight covers makes it perfect for rash plays. Best to pair it with Submachines guns and keep your finger on mouse 1 as you run around. Slimeline Pro is suitable for midrange gunfights. To unlock Slimeline Pro, get the “Lachmann Sub” gun to level 11.
VLK 4.0 Optics
As the name suggests, this sight offers 4.0x magnification, and it’s best to pair it with Rifles (Marksmen or Battle). VLK Optics offers a good compromise between magnification and surrounding awareness.
The zoom is not so extreme that you get a whiplash every time you aim down sights, and you can keep a limited awareness of your surroundings while you do. Walking and movement speeds are slowed down while using the sight. Still, once you are familiar with the physics of it, you can adjust your movements accordingly. The small red dot crosshair is once again easy to use and perfect for larger maps. To unlock VLK 4.0 Optic, get the “Kastov 762” gun to level 4.
SP-X 80 6.6x
Where are all the snipers? Rejoice as the SP-X 80 6.6x is the best scope for a sniper rifle in MW2. The scope offers 6.6x magnification but can be toggled to 11x magnification. Just be mindful of bullet drops when caring for hostiles long distances.
You will have to overcome the shortcomings that sniper rifles mostly come with. Reduced movement and walking speed and low surrounding awareness while aiming down sights. However, the satisfaction of connecting a shot at a distance through a long-range scope is unparalleled. To unlock SP-X 80 6.6x, you need to get the “SP-R 208” gun to level 5.
Playing the Invasion mode is an easy shortcut to level up your guns. It is a 20v20 mode, and if you are not in the mood for the grind, you can begin a match with bots. Just get rid of the bots with slow A.I., and it should be easy to unlock any optics your heart desires.
