Error 3107840166, Error 3642188769, Fatal Error Fix

COD Black Ops Cold War PC players are reporting that they are experiencing the Error Code 3107840166, Error 3642188769, or Fatal Error and are unable to play the game. Here is how to fix these errors.

If you are playing Black Ops Cold War at an unlocked FPS, then I recommend that you cap it to 60 FPS. This will fix the Fatal Error, Error Code 3107840166, and Error 3642188769.

In case, limiting the FPS isn’t an option then I recommend that you install MSI Afterburner and reduce the GPU clock. Start by reducing the GPU clock by 50 MHz. Ideally, you won’t have to drop the GPU clock more than 150 MHz. This will fix the Error Code 3107840166 and Fatal Error with Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War. Alternatively, players can drop the resolution scaler in the graphics options to reduce the GPU load. This will stop the game from crashing.

Another fix is to press “Windows + R”, type Regedit and press enter and a new window will open. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE > Software > Microsoft > open Cryptography folder > double click “MachineGuid” and change the data value to “d1eb246e-6243-4460-a88e-5d4e52b1ef6b”. This will fix the Error 3107840166 and Fatal error with Black Ops Cold War.

Also, if you have updated your GPU drivers to the Game Ready version, then revert back to the previous driver version as these drivers are causing errors with Black Ops Cold War, at the time of writing.

To fix the Black Cold War Error Code: 0x0 (0xE4BD8598) N, go to the Documents folder and open the Black Ops Cold War folder. Delete the Players folder and the error will be fixed.

If the error persists, then there is another fix for 0x0 (0xE4BD8598) along which is also the fix for “Error Code: 0xC0000005 (0x0) N”. Scan and repair the game and it’ll download a 3GB patch. This will fix the errors.

As for the Black Ops Cold War Error Code: 887A0005, this error is occurring due to the game’s RTX. Disable RTX features in Black Ops Cold War and the error will be fixed. If you are getting this error on a non-RTX GPU then try reducing the GPU clock by 150 MHz and the error will be fixed. Alternatively, players can drop the resolution scaler in the graphics options to reduce the GPU load. This will stop the game from crashing.

Crash Fix

A lot of players are reporting that Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War crashes randomly while playing. There are a number of reasons behind the Black Ops Cold War crash and here are the fixes.

Black Ops Cold War runs at DirectX 12 by default which is one of the reasons why the game is crashing. The game doesn’t give an option to change it to DirectX 11 but, there is a workaround. Open Battle.net client > select Black Ops Cold War > Options > Game Settings > additional command-line arguments. Add -d3d11 and click done. Launch the game and the game will be running at DirectX 11 and it won’t crash anymore.

It may sound ridiculous but, if you are using any language other than English for Windows 10, it causes Black Ops Cold War to crash. Go to Windows Language Settings and change the language to English US. This will stop the in-game crashes for the game.

If you are using third-party tools and software like MSI Afterburner or any RGB software, then that might be causing the game to crash. Disable all third-party software you have installed along with GeForce Experience overlay and Black Ops Cold War will stop crashing.

In case the game is still crashing then your GPU might be the culprit behind the crash. Either the GPU is overclocked or old. If the GPU is overclocked, then revert it back to its default GPU clock even if its factory overclocked. Alternatively, try limiting the game’s FPS to 60 if you are playing at an unlocked FPS.

If the GPU is old, then use MSI Afterburner to reduce the GPU clock. Start by reducing the GPU Clock by 50 MHz and ideally, you won’t have to do drop it more than 150 MHz. This will fix the Black Ops Cold War in-game crash. If messing with the GPU clock isn’t your style, then try capping the game’s MAX FPS. This will reduce the GPU load and the game won’t crash anymore.

Disconnected From Server Fix

Xbox and PlayStation players are reporting that they are experiencing the “Disconnected From Server” error while trying to play Black Ops Cold War. The fix for this error is simple, link your Blizzard account to your Activision account and the “Disconnected From Server” error will be fixed. In case you don’t have an Activision account, then make one and link it with your Battle.net account.

Error Connecting To Server Fix

According to PC players, they get the “Error Connecting To Server” error and are unable to play Call Of Duty Black Ops Cold War. The reason for this error is the lack of an Activision account even though players create one when they first launch the game. Turns out, that never actually creates an Activision account. Go to Activision.com, create an Activision account and link it to your Battle.net account. This will fix the error.

Game Not Starting, Crash At Startup Fix

COD Black Ops Cold War PC players are reporting that the game is crashing at startup or not launching at all. There are a number of reasons behind the Black Ops Cold War crash at launch and here are the fixes.

If you are playing the game on Windows 7, make sure it’s 64 bit and updated to SP1. The game doesn’t support 32 Bit OS so, make sure the OS is 64 Bit.

Lack of admin rights could be the reason why the game is not launching. Right-click Black Ops Cold War exe > Properties > Compatibility tab > check “Run This program as an administrator” and hit apply. Launch the game and it won’t crash at launch anymore.

In case the game isn’t launching or still crashing at startup, go to the Black Ops Cold War’s install folder and launch the game directly from the exe. Players might get an error similar to “vcruntime140_1.dll or MSVCP140.dll Was Not Found”. Fix this by installing the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables both x64 and x86 versions.

Your anti-virus/Windows Security might be blocking important game files. Disable real-time protection or exclude the Black Ops Cold War’s install folder from it. After that, scan and repair the game files and it won’t crash at launch anymore.

Improve Performance, Stuttering Fix

Call Of Duty is a franchise that has to be played at 60 FPS even the console versions of the game target 60 FPS and make a lot of compromises to achieve that. Performance is a common issue with PC video games and Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War isn’t an exception. Players are reporting stuttering and low FPS issues with the game and here is how to fix them.

Make sure you have installed the latest GPU driver. Also, check if there is any background process using too much CPU, GPU, or HDD.

Open Nvidia Control Panel > Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings > select Black Ops Cold War and make the following changes.

Anti-aliasing-FXAA – “Off”
Anti-aliasing-Gamma Correction – “Off”
CUDA GPUs – “All”
Low Latency Mode – Ultra.
Set Power Management to “Prefer Maximum Performance”
Shader Cache – “On” only if you are using an HDD. Don’t need to enable it for an SSD.
Set Texture filtering – Quality to “High Performance”
Triple Buffering – “Off”
Set Vertical Syn to “Use the 3D application setting”

Apply these settings and not only stuttering will be fixed but players might see a boost in the game’s performance. In case the stuttering persists or the FPS is low, set vertical sync to “Fast” and disable in-game V.sync.

  1.  Code: 0xC0000005 is what I’m receiving, clicking scan and repair does not work as nothing shows up when clicked. Clicking the same option from the blizzard launcher does nothing as it says the game is fine. Using an Rtx 3080 msi gaming x trio and a 10600k both as base clock speeds. 16gb of ram.

    • I haven’t found a fix for it either. It keeps happening like every third game and I lose my camo progress. Please someone help!

  2. I get 887A0005 both with RTX on and with RTX off on a 3080, so I don’t think that’s the issue. Though it *might* be less frequent with RTX off.

    • Same here. Set FPS limit to 120.
Did everything others said to do.
      Just poor game code.
      Future game patch might solve.
Never see pc players any more.
