The new Destiny 2 expansion, Lightfall has added new content to the game, including a continuation of the Light and Darkness saga and a new Darkness subclass called Strand. To make the most of the new subclass, you will need the right weapon, armor, mods, and more. In this Destiny 2 guide, we go over the best Lightfall Strand Hunter build that you should use for PvE and PvP.
Best Destiny 2 Strand PvE Hunter Build
The build that we recommend for the Strand Hunter in Destiny 2 highly depends on the suspend mechanics, which keeps enemies in the air and prevents them from attacking you. The following is a breakdown of the build.
Grenade | Shackle Grenade |
Aspects | Ensnaring Slam Widows Sillk |
Fragments | Thread of Mind Thread of Generation Thread of Warding Thread of Continuity |
Exotic Gear | The Sixth Coyote (Chest Armor) |
Artifact Mods | Untangler Authorized Mods: Grenades |
Armor Mods | Siphon Mods (Helmet) Powerful Friends (Helmet) Impact Induction (Arms) Focusing Strike (Arms) Resist Mods (Chest) Reserves Mods (Chest) Matching Weapons Surge Mod x2 (Legs) Time Dilation x2 (Cloak) |
Grenade: Shackle Grenade
This grenade will suspend the enemy that it hits and enemies nearby as well. While this is one of the methods with which this build suspends enemies, we also recommend using the Ensnaring Slam Aspect to maximize the suspended effect. Combining both will allow you to suspend a single target for longer or suspend numerous targets at the same time.
Exotic Gear: The Sixth Coyote (Chest Armor)
The Sixth Coyote grants an additional dodge charge which will be used to suspend enemies via the Ensnaring Slam aspect.
Aspects
Ensnaring Slam
This aspect allows you to consume your class ability energy to dive to the ground and suspend nearby enemies when you activate air move.
Widows Sillk
This aspect will give you an additional grenade charge allowing you to apply the suspend effect more often.
Fragments
Thread of Mind
Defeating suspended targets grants class ability energy.
Thread of Generation
Allows you to generate grenade energy when you deal damage.
Thread of Warding
Picking up Orb of Power grants Woven Mail. Woven Mail encases your body with a protective mesh of tightly woven Strand matter which greatly reduces incoming non-precision damage.
Thread of Continuity
Increases the duration of suspend, unravel, and sever applied to enemies.
Armor Mods
Helmet
Powerful Friends
Collecting an Orb of Power causes nearby allies to increase their current Armor Charge by 1.
Siphon Mod
Pick a siphon mod that matches the element of your primary weapon. This will allow you to get orbs of power on multi-kills.
Arms
Impact Induction
Generate grenade energy from melee or melee ability damage.
Focusing Strike
Generate class ability energy from melee or melee ability damage.
Chest
Resist Mods
Get resist mods depending on the type of enemies that you will be facing.
Reserves Mods
Use reserve mods depending on the weapons that you intend to use.
Legs
Matching Weapons Surge Mod (x2)
Get two copies for a 17% damage buff when you have an armor charge.
Cloak
Time Dilation (x2)
This will increase the duration of the armor charge to 18 seconds.
Strand PvP Hunter Build
Grenade | Grapple Grenade |
Aspects | Ensnaring Slam Widows Sillk |
Fragments | Thread of Ascent Thread of Fury Thread of Mind Thread of Wisdom |
Exotic Gear | Speedloader Slacks (Leg Armor) |
Artifact Mods | Untangler Authorized Mods: Grenades |
Armor Mods | Impact Induction (Arms) Grenade Kickstart x2 (Arms) Scavenger Mod (Legs) Innervation x2 (Legs) Bomber x3 (Cloak) |
Grenade: Grapple Grenade
We recommend the Grapple Grenade, and you should pair this with the Widows Sillk to get an extra grenade charge.
Aspects
Ensnaring Slam
This aspect allows you to consume your class ability energy to dive to the ground and suspend nearby enemies when you activate air move. Suspended guardians will shift to third-person and will only be able to fire from the hip.
Widows Sillk
This aspect will give you an additional grenade charge allowing you to apply the suspend effect more often.
Fragments
Thread of Ascent
Reloads your weapon and increases Airborne effectiveness and handling for a short duration.
Thread of Fury
Damaging enemies with tangle grants melee energy.
Thread of Mind
Defeating suspended targets grants class ability energy.
Thread of Wisdom
Defeating suspended enemies with precision final blows creates an orb of power.
We can also recommend the fragments we have included in our PvE build. It all comes down to preference and what you are interested in pulling off.
Exotic Gear: Speedloader Slacks (Leg Armor)
This is one of the exotics you can claim after the legendary campaign. It increases airborne effectiveness, reload speed, and handling for you and your nearby allies. While the buff is active, final blows and additional dodges increase the buff’s strength and refresh the timer. This can be stacked up to 5 times.
Armor Mods
Arms
Grenade Kickstart x2
When grenade energy is fully expended, you gain grenade energy. Armor charge is consumed, and you gain additional grenade energy for each stack.
Impact Induction
Melee damage reduces grenade cooldown.
Legs
Scavenger Mod
Scavenger mods are working in PvP. So when you pick up special ammo, you will get extra bullets.
Innervation x2
Reduces grenade cooldown when you pick up an orb of power.
Cloak
Bomber x3
Reduces grenade cooldown when using your class ability.
