ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming WiFi

Form Factor: ATX | M.2 Slots: 3 | RAM Support: 4 x DIMM, up to 128GB, DDR5

Asus is known for making some of the best motherboards on the market, and the ASUS ROG Strix B650-A Gaming is a great option for AMD Ryzen 7000 series CPUs, especially if you are interested in building a white PC. This is a premium motherboard, so you get cybertext, RGB lighting zones on the motherboard, and plenty of armor.

There are three M.2 slots, and even though PCIe Gen5 for storage is optional on B650 motherboards, this motherboard does support it. Do note that only the top M.2 slot supports Gen5 the others are limited to PCIe Gen4. The top two M.2 slots are connected to the CPU directly, while the last one is connected via the chipset.

It does not have a PCIe 5.0 x16 slot for the graphics card, but the slot is reinforced for better GPU support. This motherboard has 7 fan headers, so you can connect all the fans in your case to your motherboard and have their RGB lighting sync as well. It also has 4 RGB headers, 3 of which are ARGB.

In terms of I/O, you get 3.2 Gen 2×2: 1 x USB Type-C, 3.2 Gen 2: 3 x USB Type-A, 1 x USB Type-C, 2.0: 4 x USB Type-A, HDMI, DisplayPort, BIOS Flash button, Wi-Fi 6E, 2.5G Ethernet port, and audio array.

Pros:

  • PCIe Gen5 M.2 slot
  • White color scheme
  • Attractive design
  • Great build quality

Cons:

  • A bit expensive

GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite AX – Great Mid-Range Motherboards

GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite AX

Form Factor: ATX | M.2 Slots: 3 | RAM Support: 4 x DIMM, up to 128GB, DDR5

If you want to stick with a darker color scheme, then you can look into the GIGABYTE B650 AORUS Elite AX. This is a relatively mid-range motherboard and does not cost as much as the Asus ROG Strix, while still remaining functional and looking good. The motherboard has a 14+2+1 digital VRM design, and the cooling for the chipset and VRMs is pretty decent.

This motherboard does not have a PCIe Gen5 slot for the graphics card, and the best that you get is PCIe Gen4. The top slot is reinforced for better GPU support. The motherboard has 4 DIMM slots and supports up to 128 GB of DDR5 memory in total, running at up to 6666 MT/s.

For storage, you get three M.2 slots; one of them is PCIe Gen5, while the other two are PCIe Gen4. You also get 4 SATA ports for older drives. The motherboard has clips for installing the M.2 drives, so you no longer need to screw them into place. In terms of I/O, you get the Wi-Fi antenna connectors, DisplayPort, HDMI, 2.5G Ethernet port, Flash button, USB 3.2, regular USB 2.0, and half of an audio array.

Pros:

  • PCIe Gen5 M.2 slot
  • Attractive design
  • Great build quality
  • Plethora of USB ports

Cons:

  • Doesn’t have a full array of audio jacks
  • No Debug LED

MSI PRO B650-P WiFi – Great AORUS Elite AX Alternative

MSI PRO B650-P WiFi

Form Factor: ATX | M.2 Slots: 2 | RAM Support: 4 x DIMM, up to 128GB, DDR5

The MSI PRO B650-P WiFi is another mid-range motherboard that you can get for a little more than $200. Since this is not a premium motherboard, MSI has cut some corners. So the design is pretty barebones, with limited armor and a black-and-white aesthetic. Nothing wrong with that, though. This would be perfect for a non-RGB build.

It does have all the features that you will need, including a 12+2+1 power design, DDR5 memory support up to 128 GB, and a pair of M.2 slots. Both of these M.2 slots are Gen4 and not Gen5 which is an optional feature for B650 motherboards. There is no integrated I/O shield either, which is something that does make building a PC much easier.

For the I/O, you get 7 USB-A ports, a single 20G USB-C port, HDMI, DisplayPort, a 2.5G Ethernet port, Wi-Fi antenna connectors, and a full audio array.

Pros:

  • Great build quality
  • Great for non-RGB builds
  • Good Cooling performance
  • Decent I/O

Cons:

  • Only 2 M.2 slots

ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi – Best ITX Motherboard

ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi

Form Factor: ITX | M.2 Slots: 2 | RAM Support: 2 x DIMM, up to 64GB, DDR5

The ASUS ROG Strix B650E-I Gaming WiFi might be a small motherboard, but it has all the features you will need. Since this is an ITX motherboard, it is ideal for small form factor gaming builds. If you want a smaller gaming PC but do not want to compromise on performance, then this is definitely an option worth looking into.

The motherboard has a 10+2 phase power design and a VRM heatsink cover with a metal fan grill. Even though this is a smaller motherboard, it still has two M.2 slots. One of the front supports PCIe Gen5, while the one on the back supports PCIe Gen4. You also get a pair of SATA ports for older drives.

The PCIe slot is reinforced for better GPU support and supports PCIe Gen5. Since this is a smaller motherboard, you only get a pair of DIMM slots for your RAM, but that should not be an issue since 24, and 64 GB modules are available. The motherboard supports up to 64 GB of RAM up to 6400 MHz.

It has an integrated I/O shield for easy installation, and you get plenty of fan and RGB headers for case fans and syncing your RGB lighting. In terms of I/O, you get HDMI 2.1, USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, USB-C 20 Gbps, USB-A 3.2 Gen2, USB 2.0, an audio jack array, Wi-Fi antenna connectors, a FlexKey button, a BIOS flash button.

Pros:

  • Great design
  • Robust build quality
  • 2 M.2 slots
  • Ideal for smaller gaming PC builds

Cons:

  • Premium pricing

Gigabyte B650M K – Best Budget Motherboards

Gigabyte B650M K

Form Factor: mATX | M.2 Slots: | RAM Support: 4 x DIMM, up to 128GB, DDR5

The Gigabyte B650M K is one of the cheapest B650 motherboards that you can buy right now. This is an mATX motherboard so you do not get all the PCIe slots that you would get on a full-size ATX motherboard. Since you are only going to use one for gaming, it will get the job done.

Since this is a budget-oriented motherboard, it does not have armor and the design is pretty barebones. There is no I/O shield either. The motherboard has an 8+2+1 phase power design which is decent enough for gaming needs and it has a pair of M.2 slots for NVMe SSDs. Both of the M.2 slots support PCIe Gen4.

Other features include USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C, 2.5GbE LAN, HDMI, and DisplayPort. The I/O is alright keeping in mind the price.

Pros:

  • Great price
  • 2 M.2 slots

Cons:

  • More USB ports would be nice
