Elden Ring: How To Beat Burial Tree Watchdog (Easy Cheese)

The Burial Tree Watchdog is one of the optional bosses in the game. So you do not have to beat it to progress the game. But if you are interested in beating all the bosses in the game then you might want to know about the Burial Tree Watchdog as well. In this Elden Ring guide, we are going to walk you through how you can beat the Burial Tree Watchdog.

The Burial Tree Watchdog optional boss can be found in different locations including Stormfront Catacombs, Impaler’s Catacombs, Cliffbottom Catacombs, Minor Erdtree Catacombs, and Wyndham Catacombs. The strategy to defeat the boss remains the same, no matter where you encounter it.

How To Beat Burial Tree Watchdog In Elden Ring

The interesting thing about this boss is that it has only two moving parts. Its arm, which holds a sword, and its head. The arm can swing the sword left, right, up, and down. All this makes the boss very hard to read and predict what it is going to do next. The boss also spins on a dime so you will need to time your dodges perfectly to avoid taking damage.

Kaiden Sellsword Ashes (Easy Cheese)

One of the things that can help you during the encounter is the summons. These can keep the boss distracted and keep the focus of the dragon off you. We can recommend Kaiden Sellsword Ashes since it can do a decent amount of damage before it vanishes. You can get this from the Erdtree Burial Watchdog in Cliffbottom Catacombs.

If you are attempting the Erdtree Burial Watchdog in Cliffbottom Catacombs, then you can use the Lone Wolf Ashes to summon three wolves to help you take down the boss. The wolves are a great form of distraction allowing you to deal damage without attracting attention to yourself.

The Lone Wolf Ashes are given to you by Renna at the Church of Elleh in Limgrave. Once you can summon your steed, head back to the church to get the ashes from Renna. If you missed this interaction then you can buy the Lone Wolf Ashes and the Spirit Calling Bell from the Twin Maiden Husks in the Roundtable Hold.

Use Crystal Darts To Make The Boss Go Berserk

Use a couple of Crystal Darts on the Burial Tree Watchdog and it will go berserk and attack the closest thing, no matter if it is an ally or an enemy. You can use this to force it to attack your spirit summons. You can also make it attack imps in the Impaler’s Catacombs or have the two Watchdogs attack each other in Minor Erdtree Catacombs.

Avoid Fire Breath

The Burial Tree Watchdog can breathe fire. This attack has a lot of range so you need to move out of the way.

Levitating Slam Has AoE

The boss can levitate and then slam down on you. It can do this move three times back to back. The ground slam has an area of effect so you need to time your dodges right to avoid taking damage.

Jumping is also a great way of avoiding this attacking and you can then jump attack to break down the stance of the boss. Allowing you to stagger it faster and then land a critical strike.

Bait The Boss Into Attacking

Melee players will need to bait the boss into attacking, land a few hits, and then move away while keeping an eye out for the spinning attack. Rinse and repeat this process to drain the HP of the boss.

Lower Your Equipment Load

You can lower your equipment load to increase the speed of your roll and the number of I-frames.

Defeating the Burial Tree Watchdog has different rewards depending on where you encounter the boss. The rewards include:

  • Runes
  • Noble Sorcerer Ashes (Stormfoot Catacombs)
  • Demi-Human Ashes (Impaler’s Catacombs)
  • Kaiden Sellsword Ashes (Cliffbottom Catacombs)
  • Mad Pumpkin Head Ashes (Minor Erdtree Catacombs)
  • Glovewort Picker’s Bell Bearing (1) (Wyndham Catacombs)
