Furthermore, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is another game that runs on the Unreal Engine 5. There are some errors that UE5 games have been experiencing and Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden is not an exception as players report experiencing the Out Of Video Memory error and are unable to play the game. In this Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden guide, I have listed fixes to help you resolve the Out Of Video Memory error.

Banishers Out Of Video Memory Error Fixes You Can Try

As mentioned, Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden runs on the Unreal Engine 5. The “Out of Video Memory” error has been popping up for games that use UE5. There are multiple reasons for the error to pop up. The following are the fixes that’ll help you fix Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s Out Of Video Memory error on PC.

Disable SMT or Hyper-Threading

PC players report that Intel’s Hyper-Threading or AMD’s Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT), depending on the CPU you are using, is causing the Out Of video memory error when you play Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. Disable Hyper-Threading or Simultaneous Multithreading (SMT) and the Out Of Video Memory error will be fixed.

Run The Game In Compatibility Mode

OS compatibility is the reason for Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s Out of video memory error. To fix the error, run the game in compatibility mode for Windows 7 and the error will be fixed.

  • Right-click Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden in your Steam library > Manage > Browse local files
  • A new window will open containing game files
  • Right-click the executable and select Properties
  • Go to the Compatibility tab
  • Check “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and select Windows 7 from the drop-down menu
  • Launch Banishers and it won’t crash
Browse local files.

Reduce Performance Core Ratio

Other Unreal Engine 5 games also experience the Out Of Video Memory error. In most cases, the reason was the Performance Core ratio for high-end CPUs like Intel 13900k and 14900k. PC users have fixed the error by reducing the Performance Core ratio down to 53 or 54.

Download Intel’s Extreme Tuning Utility and turn the Performance Core ratio down to 53 or 54. Launch Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and the Out of Video Memory error is fixed.

Set Thread Limits

CPUs that feature more than 8 threads is the reason for Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden’s Out of Video Memory error. Limit the thread count that the game has access to to fix the error. Also, note that you have to apply this fix every time you launch Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden.

  • Launch Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden and minimize it
  • Open Task manager
  • Go to the Details tab and locate the Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden process
  • Right-click it and select “Set Affinity”
  • Uncheck CPU 8-11 and press OK
  • Play Banishers and it won’t crash

Enable Sysmem Fallback Policy

PC users with GPUs that have more than 24GB VRAM are also experiencing the Out of Video Memory error when they launch Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden. This is a known error for games that use Unreal Engine 5 and Banishers run on UE5. Nvidia has added “Sysmem Fallback Policy” to counter this particular error. Enable Sysmem Fallback Policy and the error will be fixed.

  • Open The Nvidia Control Panel
  • Go to manage 3D Settings > Program Settings
  • Select “Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden” from the list
  • Scroll down to “CUDA – Sysmem Fallback Policy”
  • Select “Prefer Sysmem Fallback” and apply

Enable Debug Mode

Most graphics cards from third-party AIB partners like Zotac or GIGABYTE are factory overclocked or have higher GPU and Memory clocks compared to Nvidia reference models. This is causing Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden to crash with the Out of Video Memory error. Enable the Debug mode to force the GPU to use Nvidia’s recommended GPU and Memory clocks to fix the error. Open the Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug Mode.

Increase Shader Cache Size

As mentioned before, Banishers runs in Unreal Engine 5 and it relies heavily on shaders for its visual fidelity and performance. The default Shader Cache size set by the GPU driver isn’t enough for it which is why it’s crashing with the Out Of Video Memory error. Increase the shader cache size to fix the error.

  • Open the Nvidia Control Panel
  • Go to Manage 3D Settings > Global Settings
  • Scroll down to Shader Cache
  • Select 10 GB and apply the changes.

Increase Virtual Memory

Paging File or Virtual memory plays an important role in Windows operations and helps games and programs that require more memory to a certain extent. The default Virtual Memory size isn’t enough for Banishers: Ghosts of New Eden, which is it the game with the Out Of Video Memory error. Increase the Windows Virtual Memory to fix the error.

  • Open Windows Settings go to About > Advanced system settings
  • Click “Settings” under the Advanced tab
  • Click “Change” under Virtual Memory
  • Uncheck “Automatically manage paging file size for all drives”
  • Select a drive that has available space
  • Check “Custom Size”, and input the Initial size and Maximum size in MBs
  • Press OK and restart your PC

Note: You have to set the Initial size and Maximum size values yourself depending on your RAM size. Virtual memory values have to be between 1.5x or 3x of your installed RAM size. If you have 2GB of RAM, you can set a maximum of 6,144 MB. Calculate your value in MB and input it in both Initial size and Maximum size.

Open Windows Settings and click the highlighted option.
Click on Advanced System settings,
Click the highlighted option.
Click the highlighted option.
Make the changes and press OK.
