Baldur’s Gate 3 Vulkan Error Fixes You Can Try

PC players are experiencing the Vulkan Error: DEVICE_LOST. when they launch the game. There are multiple reasons behind the Vulkan error like the GPU driver not being compatible, GPU overclock, and more. The following are the fixes that’ll help players resolve the Vulkan Error.

Install Beta Vulkan Driver

PC users report that no matter the GPU driver version they install, the game crashes with the Vulkan error, but installing the beta Vulkan driver from Nvidia fixes the error. Download Nvidia’s Beta Vulkan driver and install it. Launch the game and a pop-up will appear telling you that the installed driver is old and you need to update it. Ignore the pop-up, play BG3, and the Vulkan error is now fixed.

Disable Overclock

If you have overclocked your GPU, it is the reason behind the “Vulkan Error: DEVICE_LOST” error. Overclocking your GPU can boost game performance but it can also make it unstable. Revert the GPU to its default clocks and the error will be fixed. In case your GPU is factory overclock, which they often are, enable Debug Mode through the Nvidia Control panel. Debug mode forces the GPU to use reference GPU clocks recommended by Nvidia. Open Nvidia Control Panel > Help > Debug mode. Launch Baldur’s Gate 3 and the Vulkan error is now fixed.

Force DirectX 11

If the above fixes didn’t work and you are still experiencing the Vulkan error, you can fix it by forcing the game to use DirectX 11. Right-click the game in Steam library > properties > type -dx11 and close the window. Launch Baldur’s Gate 3 and the Vulkan error is now fixed.

Right-click the game and select properties.
type -dx11 under Launch Options.
