Baldur’s Gate 3 has puzzles hidden in almost every corner of the world — some being more crucial to the story as compared to others. One such puzzle that you will need to solve to get to The Underark is found in the Goblin Camp. It is called the Moon Puzzle that requires you to align 4 different circles in the Defiled Temple. In this Baldur’s Gate 3 guide, we will walk you through everything you need to know about solving the Defiled Temple Moon Puzzle.

Baldur’s Gate 3 Defiled Temple Moon Puzzle

Immediately after entering the Defiled Temple, you will notice 4 Stone Discs on the floor. In order to solve the puzzle, you will need to line up these Stone Discs in such a way that the full moon is on the top, dark on the bottom, and half-moon on the sides. Also, do note that the small circles on the Stone Discs represent the moon phases — filled for the full moon and empty for the dark.

If you wish to solve the puzzle yourself without jumping straight to the solution, you will need to get the Dwarf’s Poem from the Goblin Camp. After you have obtained it, you will find the hint to solving the puzzle. However, if you do not want to go through the trouble, you can see the solution provided below.

Before we begin, please do note that the solution below assumes that you have the Stone Discs in their original positions.

Moon Puzzle Solution

Once you have the Stone Discs in their original spots, you should be able to use this solution:

  • 1x Top
  • 3x Left
  • 1x Bottom
  • 2x Left
  • 2x Right
  • 1x Bottom
  • 2x East

This is basically the order in which you must interact with the Stone Discs. It should be pretty simple!

Alternate Way

If puzzle solving is not your thing, there is another way to get the rewards. Once you enter the area, head over to the northeast edge of the room to find a pillar with a lever on the backside — you will probably need some Perception to be able to see it. If you have high-enough Lockpicking, you should be able to open the room without solving the puzzle.

If you decide to solve the puzzle, however, you will get 35 XP — 25XP additional with a Sage.
