Baldur’s Gate 3 gives you plenty of choices and the decisions that you make have consequences that you need to deal with later on. If you explore the Zhentarim Basement or have encountered some Gnolls then you might have found the Caravan Strongbox. This is an item from the Find the Missing Shipment quest, that you can open by picking the lock. What Happens If You Open The Caravan Strongbox In Baldur’s Gate 3?
If you open the Caravan Strongbox in Baldur’s Gate 3, you will find a Potion of Invisibility, 11 gold, and an Iron Flask. The Iron Flask is special. Interact with it and pass the Arcana Intelligence check to learn that there is a monster inside. You can open the flask or throw it to summon a level 5 Spectator and you will need to fight it. You do not get any rewards from the encounter but you might get some reward down the line.
If you return the box after it has been opened then the Zhentarim will turn against you and you will need to prepare for a battle.
Consequences Of Keeping The Caravan Strongbox Closed
If you give the box to Zarys then you will be rewarded with a rare heavy crossbow. Harold, and Brem in the Zhentarim Basement will have an increased variety of items that you can buy. You can also choose to sell the box in Baldur’s Gate.
Note that if you want the rewards that are inside the box then you can pickpocket Zarys after you have handed over the box. You will need a successful Sleight of Hand check to pull this off and if you are caught while getting away then you will need a successful roll of Deception, Persuasion, or Intimidation.
