Assassin’s Creed Valhalla changes things a bit from the older games and adds a few features back. There is plenty that you can do in the game but there are a couple of things that you need to know about before you head in. In this Assassin’s Creed Valhalla guide, we are going to give you some useful tips and tricks that should make things a bit easier.
Assassin’s Creed Valhalla Tips And Tricks
The following are some useful tips and tricks that you should keep in mind when playing Assassin’s Creed Valhalla:
How Healing Works
You no longer heal automatically when you are out of combat. You need to have food or rest in order to heal. You can pick up berries around you to take items from your rations (H button on PC) in order to restore your health. For more information regarding healing, you can check out our dedicated Assassin’s Creed Valhalla healing guide.
If you have played the older AC games then you might remember blending into the environment. That feature has been added to the game. When you are in an area where you are not supposed to be then you can put in your hood (B button on PC) and blend in with the crowd. You can even sit on a bench or do some activities that will keep you from being noticed.
While you are blending in you cannot holster a weapon. You cannot get too close to enemies either as they will spot you and your cover will be blown. We recommend walking slowly when cloaked in order to avoid detection and attracting any attention.
When exploring the world, you will find Opals. Bring these back to Reda the merchant in your settlement in order to earn rewards.
Raven Sight Does Not Mark Enemies
In previous games, when you used your eagle to map out the area it could mark enemies for you. That is no longer the case. While you can see enemies with the raven sight, they will not be marked for you to keep track of. You will need to get closer and use Odin’s sight in order to mark enemies and find objects of interest. The Raven can help you find collectibles such as leather and minerals.
Unlocking The Leap Of Faith
Eivor is not an assassin so it makes sense that he or she does not have the ability to use the leap of faith. You can however learn how to do it by building the Assassin’s Bureau at your settlement. Doing so will also unlock the Order of Ancient menu.
Horse Swimming Ability
By default, your horse cannot swim in the game. When the water is too deep and you are on your horse, it will throw you into the water and you will have to cross on your own. You can unlock the horse swimming ability by building the Stable. This is also going to allow you to customize your Raven.
Finding Specific Rewards
The Cartographer is a good way of getting specific rewards. He will reveal locations of gear, chests and ingots for you to loot.
Perilous Attacks Cannot Be Parried Or Blocked
These attacks are marked by red runes. You cannot parry or block them so you will need to dodge and move out of the way.
Upgrade Rations And Quiver
You can upgrade your rations and quiver in the inventory menu. This will allow you to replenish more health and keep more arrows. You will need specific resources for these upgrades.
You Need To Find Abilities
Unlike the previous games, you will have to explore the open-world and find abilities before you can unlock them. You unlock abilities by finding books of knowledge that can be found in the open world. You can however buy a map in the store that marks the locations of all the abilities so that you can get the ones that you want and leave the rest. You will find some books of knowledge while you progress through the main storyline so be sure to keep your eyes out for them.
The Torch Can Be Used As A Weapon
The torch can be used as a weapon. You can also throw it to set things on fire.
Raiding For Resources
Raiding is a new feature that has been introduced in Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. You can head over to the red weapons marker on the map get your longboat close to the golden mark and then press the raid button to start the raid. Raids are great to get supplies and raw materials that you need to in order to upgrade your settlement.
You can sneak into a settlement in order to raid it. This is a good way of taking out the guards at night when they are sleeping rather than announcing your attack but you will need to sound the horn and call your crew in order to loot some chests that Eivor cannot open alone.
Destroy Alarm Bells
When you are attacking a settlement or fortification there are alarm bells that you need to take out. Destroying them will prevent enemies from calling reinforcement and will make your job much easier.
Use Your Environment
When you are behind enemy lines, you can look around to find interactive objects. You can ignite enemies with explosives or shoot an arrow to break a pully that is holding a load to drop it onto enemies below. This will kill enemies without attracting attention towards you.
Beware Of Mushrooms
Mushrooms are one of the edibles that you find in the open world that you can eat but beware that there are some kinds of mushrooms that can poison you. These can be lethal.
Synchronize in order to unlock the fast travel points. This is something that we recommend you do in order to save time in the long run. Whenever you are near the white eagle market, you should head up and sync. The ones that you have synced will turn green. Synchronizing will allow you to fast travel and move around the open world much faster.
Auto Sailing And Riding
Instead of controlling the ship or horse yourself you can have the horse or ship automatically go to the next quest or the marker that you have set on the map. Press Z on PC to make the ship follow the river and then press E to make it go to your marker. The same is the case for your horse.
