Animal Crossing New Horizons House Upgrades Guide

Our Animal Crossing New Horizons House Upgrades guides will help you with how to upgrade, relocate your house and more.

New Horizons House Upgrades

Upgrading your house is an essential part of Animal Crossing New Horizons. You start off living in a small tent and you need to make upgrades to make it a house.

Of course, to upgrade the tent into a house you need 5000 Nook Miles, which can be earned by taking part in the Nook Mileage program. Once you have upgraded your tent into a house, you can decorate it.

Not only that, you also get some benefits like storage and more, which can further be upgraded and our Animal Crossing New Horizons House Upgrades guide will help you with that.

Storage Room

With the house, you also get a storage room. As the name suggests, this can be used to store your items. Further upgrade your house to increase the storage space in your storage room.

How To Upgrade

Once you have paid off the first Initial mortgage of 98,000 bells, you’ll be able to upgrade your house. Further upgrades require more Bells currency. With each upgrade, the cost will increase and when you buy an upgrade, it’ll take some time to complete. Below you can see the increase in the cost of the house upgrade.

  • 98,000 bells
  • 198,000 bells
  • 298,000 bells
  • 598,000 bells

HHA Score And Award

When you upgrade your tent into a house, you’ll receive a letter from Happy Home Academy. The academy will score your house depending on decoration and overall design.

If your score is high enough then you’ll be rewarded by Happy Home Academy. You can further upgrade your house to increase your score.

How To Relocate

If you don’t like the place where you built your house, you can relocate to another location. However, to be able to relocate the house you first need to upgrade the Resident Services building. You need to complete the following milestones in order to upgrade the Resident Services building.

  • Upgrade the shop
  • Invite more villagers to your island
  • Create your first bridge
  • Prepare plots for the villagers

Complete these milestones and upgrade the Resident Services building. Then go and talk to Toom Nook to relocate your house but, it’ll cost you 30,000 Bells.
