AMD Radeon GPU users are recently experiencing Error Code: 43, concerning driver compatibility, halting the software from launching or running properly; here is how to fix the error.

What is Error Code: 43

Error Code: 43, “Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems,” has been reported by many users showing up in the device manager with the AMD Radeon GPU icon with a yellow exclamation. After looking thoroughly into the problem, we’ve narrowed down the reasons and solutions for the problem at hand.

Starting with the AMD driver, it could be that its installation files are corrupted. One possible reason could be outdated drivers or some kind of driver conflict. Apart from that, it could also be that the system files for your system are corrupted and faulty, which may need reinstalling.

Fix 1: Device Troubleshooter

The first solution for Error Code: 43, use the system’s troubleshooter utility. Every PC comes with an inbuilt troubleshooter that detects the problems regarding an error, reports it to you, and asks for permission to fix them. Follow the steps below to perform troubleshooting:

  • Press Win + R keys.
  • Type in ‘ms-settings:troubleshoot’ in the text box and press Enter.
  • A troubleshooting tab will open up.
  • Locate the ‘Find and Fix Other Problems’ section by scrolling down.
  • Next, locate the ‘Hardware and Devices’ option and Run the troubleshooter.

After the troubleshooter analyzes the problem, it will provide you with an ‘Apply the fix’ option. Click it and after completion, see if the problem continues.

Fix 2: Update Driver

As mentioned earlier, the problem could be related to the GPU driver. It could be that a conflict is forming between the AMD GPU drivers and the generic ones that were installed by the system by default. In that case, the best course of action is to start with a clean slate by uninstalling the previous drivers from the Device Manager and installing the new ones through official AMD channels. Follow the steps below to do so:

  • Press the Win + R keys.
  • In the text box, type ‘devmgmt.msc’ and hit Enter.
  • A Device Manager window will open up.
  • A list of devices will appear in the window. From it, locate the Display Drivers and click on the drop-down menu.
  • Find the AMD GPU driver and right-click on it.
  • Select the ‘Uninstall Device’ option.

This procedure will uninstall the AMD GPU drivers, and after it, instructions will pop up regarding the installation of drivers. Follow those instructions and close the Device Manager once it’s done.

  • Open Run Program once again.
  • Type in ‘appwiz.cpl’ and hit Enter.
  • A Programs and Features menu will open up.
  • Locate the Publisher column, click on it, and look for all the GPU components.
  • Uninstall every driver that is assigned by AMD.
  • Once completed, restart your PC. After it, head over to the AMD driver download page
  • Download the GPU drivers using the Auto-Detect feature and install them. Once this procedure completes, check if your problem still persists or not
