Age of Wonders 4 is a very interesting fantasy strategy game that not only has a regular surface world but an underworld that is underground. While underground, the dynamics of the game are slightly different since the space is a bit higher and there are plenty of obstacles that confine you. Not to mention that the farming options are going to be limited since there is no sun underground. How To Start In The Underworld In Age Of Wonders 4
You do not have to start on the surface and explore the underworld later on. You can choose to start off in the underworld. You can do that by creating a faction that has the Underground Adaptation mind trait. This will allow you to start underground. It also allows you to move faster and build farms underground. Furthermore, you will get the Excavation bonus which allows you to build tunnels.
How To Disable The Underground In Age Of Wonders 4
At the time of writing, there is no way of completely disabling the underground in Age of Wonders 4. You can opt to go with a small underground section and there is an Uninhabitable Underground which is limited to the story realms. The Uninhabitable Underground might be added to other realms in the future and a mod might come out that applies the same effect.
Underground Tips And Tricks
- The Excavation bonus allows you to remove rock walls. You can find treasure, caves and at times even hostile units are going to pop up.
- Pick the Underground Adaptation trait to build farms underground.
- Bedrock cannot be removed and is permanent.
- The terrain underground is difficult to traverse and movement is going to be slow. Underground Adaptation is going to make movement faster.
- If you fancy staying below the surface then you should pick the realm with Massive Underground. Otherwise, you will find the area around you cramped and will not have enough room to expand your empire.
- Some of the terraforming spells work differently underground. So be sure to try them out.
